Morning all :)

I have a little dilemma...So yesterday I want to watch some series off my external HDD. Plug it into my PC at home and open it and all that I see are these funny shortcut files. None of my own folders are there. All the data/content is still on the HDD because when I search the drive, I can see it all. It's just my actual personal folders that have disappeared..Any one know what causes this and how to fix it?

Morning all.

M, I had a similar thing happen on a flashdrive, turns out it was a virus that converts files into shortcuts. I ended up just turfing the flashdrive, although that isn't an option in your case.

I scanned it with Avast when I got home, but didn't show any threats. Also read online that it could be due to removing the drive while it is still working or by using it on a pc where the hdd has a different file system to that of the external.

It was an exe file that hid itself on the drive as I recall. Wish I could remember what it was called, that would totally help.
Or, it could be something as innocent as what you read.
