Oh fun and games for me during lunch.

Went to a local small shopping complex to get hooves for my woofs and sommer a light lunch at the Spar. Now the petstore is next to a small hole in the wall atm for absa. I walk right by it to get into the petstore. As I walk towards the shop, I notice 2 people at the atm, one woman and a guy. This guy is crowding her, trying to push the buttons for her - basically forcing her to let him use the machine for her. So I decide to pretend to stand in line for the atm. Watching the guy not get aggressive but definitely unwelcome. So me and my big mouth decide to help the lady out.

I walk closer and ask her is she is ok, she doesnt say much but I could see panic in her eyes. So I pretend that I assume the machine ate her card and want to give her advice and pushed myself next to the woman and basically with my arm I just pushed the man away. Telling him its ok I can help her (speaking loudly as well without yelling hoping to attract the attention of one of the passerbys I started crowding him and just being an irritation. He then suddenly pushed the woman into me and turned and ran towards a parked car with 2 other gentlemen in the car. The lady who runs the petshop came out to see what the commotion is about and I just yelled bring me paper and a pencil and between the two of us we managed to get their number plates.

So phoned the cops and reported the incident, at which time the mall security decided to come investigate. The lady I helped just ran off - not sure where to but 5 mins later the cops showed up and gave us a stern talking to about confronting the guy. So I asked him what are we supposed to do - nothing was his response and I just told him well that is why these idiots get away with things like that.

Another patrol car came at that point and as I told them what happened for the 5th time the one cop told me it was a huge risk incase the guy had a gun or something and I told him well I couldnt let him harrass the woman. And he then told me my description of the guy matches one of a gang of 3 who targets women at atms and they pretend to have a weapon and force you to draw the max amount on the card. The fact that we got the plates of the car is a huge deal for them cos they have been trying to catch them for a month now and that was the first solid info they had besides what the group looked like.

So yar I got a warning to be more careful.

Kyk ek vattie kak nie ma gewoonlik wat ek ook nie kanse nie. But seriously how was I supposed to watch that woman get robbed/harassed whatever.

Ive been mugged before when I lived in the uk, since then I just dont take things like that lightly. But normally I am more careful especially at home lately. If the doorbell rings I either use the speaker/vid to talk to the person and if he/she doesnt want to move on I open the back door and let the dogs out so that they can move on. This just actually pissed me off cos the guy was not really behaving in a threatening manner but the woman was just taking it. If he came up to me when I was using the atm I would have elbowed the bastard.

Good on you for doing that. But ja, that is kak dangerous. Similar thing happened to a colleague of mine's elderly mother. If it is reported with the police and the bank (if an incident occurred) and it can be proved, banks reimburse the money to the people.

You did the right thing, just be careful out there.

You get today's medal of awesomeness!

I think I've hit a low point. It's my lunch hour, there's no cooldrink in the house, I hate drinking water, so I'm drinking a Heineken...
and I'm getting tipsy off one freaking beer. *sobs*
