The top 10 rated PC exclusives of 2011

Technically the Witcher 2 isn't exclusive considering that the 360 version is due soon. The moment you take multiplatform titles out of the mix, then things look pretty bleak across all platforms.

Think you missed a few;

Star Wars: The Old Republic (87)
Football Manager 2012 (84)
The Binding of Isaac (83)

...wow, aoc, daoc, ddu, <insert mmo> ;)

Definitely my picks out of that list
Shogun 2
Frozen Synapse
Witcher 2*

*going xbox as well and probably ps3 later on.

Those didn't come out in 2011.

Well mmos isn't really an exclusive, but ok.

Sticking to 2011, lets enter then hellgate resurrection. That went live in western part of the world this year. Then we might as well throw in mists of pandaria as well as AOC F2P or launch of EQ2 F2... too many. TOR, that's very 2011 and mo-ish, lol.

:edit
Saying mmo is an exclusive is a bit like saying the iOS is an exclusive, no where is it marketed as exclusives. AFAIK exclusive is something like God of War or Gears of War that is really an exclusive and not just because of "limitations" imposed in an mmo on PC vs iPone Vs Ipad vs Andriod Vs ps3 Vs xbox Vs dslite Vs wii...

Confused, how is a relaunch and a change of payment model considered a NEW GAME. Star Wars The Old Republic and Rift were both released this year, all those you are mentioning are old, so I'm not sure what you are trying to say. An MMO is a game so why can't you consider it an exclusive, can you play it on another system besides PC? DCUO is an MMO and it's not exclusive to PC, same with FFXI.

Going on my reply I would like to know why and what makes an exclusive. As I've said I believe it only an exclusive when it's specifically marketed and developed as such.

We all know that mmos isn't popular on consoles due to restrictions in the controller, so that's an hardware limitation not an exclusive. Furthermore witcher 2 for example was made for the pc, but is branching out to the consoles which rules it out as an exclusive. Mine craft already is going over to ipad, I guess there is android for it too.

This is why something like God of War, Metal gear solid, FF (pre all platform), gears of war (2 and 3), but rather something like Halo which is xbox only as per development and marketing. That I would say is exclusive to one platform or device not just because of controller limitation or targeted development and release such as INDIE. Indie is obviously first on a single platform due to costs involved, not every independent developer can or could just do multi platform release, I'd guess that be very expensive to say the least.

As my reply, I say it's fail to call a mmo exclusive just because of a hardware limitation on the consoles, AKA imagine playing wow with a damned controller. Why not start calling windows 7 an exclusive? or why not start calling iOS an exclusive, hec I might as well see my kone+ as an exclusive since it can't fit my iPhone.

Well your definition is exclusive to you. You can consider whatever you like to be a 'proper' exclusive but the fact of their exclusivity still remains.

MMO's choose to target the PC platform just as much as any other developer chooses to target a specific console, hence it's not just a 'hardware limitation' it's a conscious decision to go one way over the other.

Also both Minecraft and The Witcher 2 are both going to 360 but as of yet they are still exclusive. :)

Well your definition is exclusive to you.

If you have 3 fingers and I have 4 fingers, Just because you have a glove with just 3 fingers doesn't make it an exclusive. If we both had same amount if fingers and someone specifically made you a glove then it's an exclusive glove. That's the crux of it.

I still say that MMOs isn't exclusive *just* because a console's interface differs from a pc's mouse and keyboard which motives pc to get more MMOs than consoles themselves. That's bit like saying Pick and pay had stock of bar-one and Checkers not, now magically (and illogically) Pick and pay sells exclusive bar ones where in fact Checkers just didn't stock it. Going by that way of thinking we could call openweb bandwidth exclusive vs mweb "exclusive" bandwidth.

Or how about babies now being exclusive to woman, I mean they give birth to them due to their biological makeup and men don't so we must believe (throw out logic) and call it an exclusivity forgetting the gender limitation. If both sexes had the ability to give birth, but only woman did then you could truly call it that way.

You sir are confusing your definition of exclusive with the actual definition.

ex·clu·sive/ikˈsklo͞osiv/
Adjective:
Excluding or not admitting other things.
Noun:
An item or story published or broadcast by only one source.
Synonyms:
sole

Having babies is EXCLUSIVE to the female gender of the human race.

If PnP had Bar Ones and Checkers/Spar/Etc did not it would be the EXCLUSIVE supplier of Bar-One chocolates in South Africa.

If I was the only person in the world with 3 fingers and had the only three fingered glove then that glove would be EXCLUSIVE to my person.

Intelligent life is exclusive to planet Earth, at least as far as we know. :)

Exclusivity does not require a choice only a circumstance.

I would mention something about consulting a dictionary but it would probably go unheeded and thus pointless so I'll stay the matter as it's rather tangential to the topic.

Pointless is indeed pointless,

I still cannot see why you can't understand that something that comes out on a pc due to the consoles having user input limitations is not an exclusive.

An exclusive is only and exclusive when both platforms have same capability, but one is preferred over the other or there has been a specific single platform agreement with developers, distributors and "owners" of the platform.

As I've said many times by now, same goes for Indie. Unless they have the necessarily funding and skills it will always be a single platform first over multiple platforms.

This in the end invalidates mmos, minecraft and related's exclusiveness.

The End.

Is there such a thing as a pc exclusive then? :/

Apparently it's only exclusive if you had all the money, resources and customers to put it on any platform you wanted but someone paid you not to.

I think I can understand where Prophet is coming from with this. When it comes to gaming, the term "Exclusive" started out and is usually done as part of "marketing" (not sure if that is the right word, but I think it will do fine)... It is also, usually associated with consoles. To put it differently, I very rarely see a game advertised as "PC Exclusive" in the same way that XBox and PS exclusive games are marketed. For instance, on PS exclusive titles, on the disc case in the top-right corner, you will see text "Only on Playstation" which is not something you would likely see with PC titles.

The only game that I can really think of as a "PC Exclusive" would be Witcher 2, although I read somewhere that they are busy with a Xbox version of the game.

But both explanations are right. It depends who decides which platforms will be excluded.

If the marketing department does so on the basis of working with that platform to make more money then prophet is right.

If the development department decides to exclude a platform due to money restrictions or platform restrictions then the others are right.

But as a complete package and wrt the definition of exclusive, a Title is exclusive if it is only available in one place. This is true even if you have a different picture in your mind of what a gaming-specific exclusive means.

It isn't about intention and so restrictions can also make it exclusive. Usually these cases aren't marketed as such, because who wants to advertise their limitations?
