Im sure you all remember these from school ..
Little bits of good advice can be so conflicted , Im sure you will enjoy it as much as I did when I really thought about it:

Look before you leap but he who hesitates is lost ?
Revenge is a dish best served cold but you should strike the iron while its hot ?
"Actions speak louder than words" but "The pen is mightier than the sword?"
"Many hands make light work but Too many cooks spoil the broth?"
"Absence makes the heart grow fonder." but "Out of sight, out of mind?"
"What will be, will be." Yet life is what you make it?
"Cross your bridges when you come to them." but "Forewarned is forearmed."
"What's good for the goose is good for the gander." but "One man's meat is another man's poison."
"With age comes wisdom." but "Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings come all wise sayings."
"The more, the merrier." "Two's company; three's a crowd"
“The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.”

:wtf:

“The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.”

This is the only one which makes sense, since the first mouse will die in the trap getting the cheese, which means the second one can take the cheese since the trap has sprung.

There was a list of these contradictions somewhere before and, frankly, I think it's brilliant :D

Thanks for posting, kerbyross :)

Yea , but what about the mouse that got up earlier than the second one ?
hehe..
Some days one should just stay in bed , especially if you're a mouse.

That mouse would be dead? Unless the first mouse was going after the worm. But then what would the early bird be doing?

Hahahaha nice list - next wise ass to give me "wise" ass advise im gona have to give him a piece of my mind :P

The pen is mightier than the sword must be a reference to politics.

"Many hands make light work but Too many cooks spoil the broth?"

Means having more help, helps, but being excessive against the requirements of said action counteracts your Objective.

So these work together also :)

You're taking them out of context, that's why it doesn't make sense.

No i'm not.
Let’s say you wanted to get back at someone and I gave you advice,
Strike the iron while it’s hot / revenge is a dish best served cold, who’s right and who’s wrong?

There’s university lectures about these things ToOken , saying im out of context is like saying its mind over matter,
if you don’t mind it doesn’t matter.

Like this one:

"Absence makes the heart grow fonder." but "Out of sight, out of mind?"

If you care about someone a lot, then you miss them. If you don't care about someone that much, you tend to forget about them as time goes on.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder might also be because it's for a short period of time and Out of sight out of mind might be for a longer period of time, depending on who that person is.

to0kenZA , do you know how many soldiers received Dear Johnny letters during the 2nd world war ?
So many , in fact , that the term is very well known , I dont even need to explain to you what a Dear Johnny letter is.
Out of sight , out of mind , people will move on when youre out of sight for long enough. Hence why its conflicting with absence making the heart grow fonder.
A Dear Johnny letter is to someone you love , who you cant / wont face , to break off a relationship.
Perfect example of out of sight out of mind where if one had a relationship and the other was absent , the heart was supposed to grow fonder.
Like I said , these are university discussions , theres no right or wrong either , its just intellectual.

So , try this one...
Someone once told me that small things amuse small minds , but Einstein was amused by the atom...
