The Witcher 2 Coming To Xbox One Via Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility

If you were a fan of CD Projekt RED’s exemplary The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and have been interested in playing the previous games in the series, then Microsoft and CD Projekt RED will make it at least a little easier for you- The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, which launched on the Xbox 360 in 2012, will be made available on the Xbox One via the console’s backwards compatibility feature.

CD Projekt RED’s community manager Marcin Momot has confirmed on Twitter that the second game in the franchise will be made available on the Xbox 360 in the future- though an exact date has not yet been nailed down. This news came alongside the slightly disappointing news that there probably won’t be any remasters of the older games for the current generation systems.

I've tried playing The Witcher 2 a couple of times over the past 2 years, but gave up every time. I really don't enjoy the game.

You're missing out. :p I love that game, even more than TW3. Then again, I have very strange tastes. :D

TW2 could use a remaster on the RedEngine 3, but I guess that won't happen now. The older RedEngine 2 does have some technical issues that could be fixed.

I really want to like the game, but I tried and just don't. The combat feels clunky and the game felt linear and forced. I love a linear game as much as the next guy, but something just felt off in TW2.

The Witcher 2 is far from linear. It has two completely seperate Act 2's depending on a choice you make in Act 1. I.e. depending on the choice you make you will have a completely different Act 2 with a different area and different main and side quests. No other game does this.

The progression through the world may be somewhat linear, but the story is very non-linear.

Pretty much nailed it.

I never understood using linear as a negative either. Lots of games are "linear", there's nothing wrong with that. Hell, with all these massive open world games coming out all the time, I wouldn't mind for some devs to go back to open hub areas.

Actually, I think it's wrong to call games like The Witcher 1/2 or Mass Effect linear. They're "hub world" styled games, you get placed in a map and the choice and order of quests are your decision. Eventually you make a big decision that allows you to progress to a new map. Yeah, the main plot follows an organised structure (Part 1 -> Part 2 -> Part 3), but the same thing happens in the main quest for most open world games like TW3 or Assassin's Creed. The world might be open, but the quests sure aren't.

Compare that to something like Gears of War, where the level design is 100% linear. You can only follow a certain path and you aren't allowed to deviate at all.
