The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition: all you need to know

Lucky for me it's my birthday in two weeks and a friend of mine gave me the majority of the cash as an early bday present. :D

I love the Dark Edition. It probably has the coolest box of any collector's edition I've seen; the 3D wolf head is just damn awesome. The medallion is my favourite thing in there, but the art book is really decent as well.

Yup, I've seen it in the flesh (so to speak) and it is freakin' beautiful.
Alas. Don't feel like eating beans for the rest of the month :D

After using some suggestions here and a lot of fiddling last night I have some early-game tips that made things remarkably easier in combat:

1. Get the Grapeshot bomb immediately. You can buy them pre-made or just purchase the diagram to make your own. These things make dealing with mobs a pleasure.

2. Always cast Quen before wading in with your sword swinging. If you get hit, evade and recast.

3. Sword oils make plenty difference. Slap on a 20% damage boost or an enemy-specific oil and the enemy scum will drop like flies.

4. Upgrade your Parry skill and use it with human enemies religiously. Forget it for nekkers and smaller enemies, rather evade.

5. There is absolutely no shame in kiting. This ain't no hack 'n slash.

/Takes Notes

I've only gotten about 2 hours game time with this, hope to sink my teeth into it properly over the weekend.

Those are some good tips, only discovered the use of traps while doing the tutorial yesterday, can't believe I finished the game without them before... Also playing with the Xbox controller is kinda cool. :)

Compared to the Witcher 1's PC interface the Xbox control scheme does seem a massive improvement, IMO.

Ok, did number 4 last night. Also grabbed a halberdier which allows you to mow down three at a time and it has great range.
I only have one spell at the moment (the Aard?Vard? - can't remember what it's called) - how does one get more?

Traps are excellent, but only when you have time to lure slower enemies into them IMHO. I've found trying to drop them too close to mobs of smaller enemies is a bad idea as the little bastards trigger the trap before you can move clear of it.

You only have Aard? I started out with all 5 spells from the get-go.

What difficulty are you playing on?

Yeah it's all I have.... from what I can tell. Playing on Normal.

Hold down LB.... quick selection menu opens choose which one u want.

Watch out for over-using the Quen sign, your vigor won't regenerate while it's on. Quen was a lot stronger in the previous version as well!

Started it over the weekend, what an awesome game.

But damn, the combat is difficult to get into. I was savagely and embarrassingly butchered by the first wave of grunts I came across.

That's The Witcher 2's rite of passage. :D

I absolutely loved the difficulty in the first section of the game. I was kinda disappointed when they made it easier in subsequent patches. If you're playing it now, and you're finding it this difficult, imagine how we, the people who bought it at release felt. :p

As for the Enhanced Edition, is it available as a standalone patch? I want to play it over the weekend, but if I download it at home it will take a day and a half at least. If I download it at the university, it will probably take about 4 minutes.

You can manually dl the files from here, then just use the patcher at home to update using those files.

Yeah they've nerfed Quen quite a lot it seems. I used to rely on it heavily when I initially played the game on PC, saved my life on countless occasions. I see this time around it goes away after like one or two hits, used to last longer.

I am playing more of an Alchemy build this time around though (want to see how that Berserk mode is), so that probably also plays a part in how weak my Quen is, but I can definitely tell that it is has been nerfed.

I'm currently level 19 and making headway in Act II. :D I still remember most of the quests from my 3 playthroughs on PC, so I'm not really doing a lot of exploring, basically just finishing quests as I go along. I am also on leave until next Saturday so I have managed to put quite a few hours in so far. Really loving the game on X360, CD Projekt Red have done an amazing job.

Ooh thanks!

And it's neatly split up into 36 files to make it even faster to download. If I go tonight I can probably be playing by tomorrow.

Didn't find the combat that difficult, but if you go in balls to the wall, sword blazing you're going to get cut to ribbons. I learnt this lesson on Tuesday. :p Now I'm all about the rolling. And the running. Let's not forget the running.

Did you play it at release, though?

I keep getting distracted by ME3 MP so I've only played about 10 mins of the EE so far. Hopefully this weekend I can squeeze in a decent few hours.
