The Witcher 2 patch out, removes DRM

I think the performance tweaking will improve with sub-sequent patches. The removal of the DRM in all other releases is welcome indeed for other users. It took 4 patches for Witcher 1 before they removed the DRM checks - which was a big damn surprise for all of us (a welcome one :P) - and now in the first one they go and do something so awesome.

I honestly hope that CD Projekt keeps their development ideals as they gain recognition. Which judging from their view on game difficulty and content via press releases they seem to be doing just fine for now.

Hats off to you!

Well, aim unable to install patch. The instructions on the site was to uninstall the game and reinstall it.

Great, now I am unable to play the game since it's failing in downloading the patch during the activation process.

What's baffling is why they bothered with DRM in the first place if they go and remove it on the first patch, with the game hardly even out the door.
Maybe there's some funny stat somewhere claiming that most game piracy happens in the first 2 weeks of a games release...

I believe their story is that it was to curb pre-release enthusiasm :)

Patch 1.1 was released last night, and on top of numerous fixes implemented, the game also completely removed the game’s DRM.

Surely you mean patch? :p

Anyway, getting my new gpu on Monday so i'll finally be able to play the game. Can't wait!

Although that approach is just as bullshit if you ask me. The game was leaked before release and the only people who had to struggle with the DRM were, once again, the legit users.

Indeed, and I believe GOG and Atari versions had no DRM at all ?
Death to DRM!

Because atari and bandico(spelling) wanted it. The version published by cd projekt themselves (the gog version) never had drm and the other download versions had no added drm.

Atari removed drm from their download version a week after the launch after seeing buyers prefering their competitors versions which didn't have drm or very little.

this is the best news of the week for me! anything to make the game play smoother on better detail levels will be welcome! its not that the game is ugly on the lower detail levels, it can just look so much better!

couple that with the DRM removal and CD Projek is moving in the right direction for PC gamers everywhere!

Does anyone know if it fixed the bug where throwing bombs or daggers caused your mouse and stuff to lock up and stop responding?

This is the only thing stopping me from not buying the game, its super irritating.
