There’s still more power left in the Xbox 360, says Cliffy B

If anyone out there purchased, and is playing EPIC’s latest masterpiece, Gears of War 3, you know how incredibly action packed the title is. The game is so action packed and graphically impressive, its hard to imagine a developer squeezing more power out of the Xbox 360. If you ask Cliff Bleszinski however, EPIC can do it…

“I think if we bring out any more products on the 360 depending on life cycle, we’ll be able to squeeze more water from that stone,” Bleszinski told The Telegraph when asked if Epic Games felt restricted by the Xbox 360.

“That said, I still think there is a huge amount of room for improvement in graphics,” he continued. “We want to get to Avatar-quality and real time and beyond. I think we can absolutely get there, hopefully in the next generation if everybody ponies up and does good hardware.”

So when exactly will that “next generation” be here?

“Who knows. I could tell you,” he said. “But I’d violate an NDA.” Bleszinski said.

We wish Cliff would talk more about the “next generation” of consoles but we understand why he can’t. As far as squeezing more out of the Xbox 360, we’ll just have to wait and see.

funnily though when gears of war came out back in 2006 epic said

"We pushed the 360 to the limits," Gears of War QA manager Preston Thorne told Siliconera

personally I dont believe any developers these days

lol that's what every dev says after a release of a AAA title.
Sucker Punch said something similar after the release of inFAMOUS 2 iirc.

Back on topic though.
Gears 3 does look pretty, so if the devs. can squeeze more out of the 360, I'm pretty excited to see what they come up with.

the only issue I have is that there just isnt enough time to game in a day. Gears looks great BTW. With soo many games available and soon to be released I also think that consoles in general have a lot to offer

As long as these gaming companies make good "Playing" games I'm happy. Nice graphics is always nice but it is always the gameplay that counts the most. Let's hope they remember that :)

Yeah, still a lot of life left in the current gen market. Its up to developers to optimize their engine efficiently and not complain about hardware specs. I believe that especially, in the PC market, most graphic cards go outdated before they can be fully utilised which is sad, but it is a big payday for card manufacturers.

I'm more interesting in them focussing on making games with good, engaging stories and characters. Spend more time on that and less worrying about the graphics.

Well said, games are meant to be played.Nice graphics counts for nothing if the game's not fun or engaging.

Gears of War 1 is R60 at BT, reckon Ill get it and play through the trilogy(over the next year). Story and gameplay should be paramount when developing games. I'm sure developers know this by now but graphics always gets better as a consoles get older. The devs just learn how to utilise the hardware better over time. Early PS2 games make your eyes water but the later games are still good to look at.
