These are top 10 selling Steam games of H1 2011

Pretty surprising to still see BFBC2 and Borderlands up there, kudos. Both deserving games. Also fantastic to see an indie game at the number 2 spot. :)

But Steam only sells PC games. Everyone knows PC games are all pirated, and there's only a demand for TV-games!!!!!111!!!!11!1!1
Filthy lies!!!!11!!

:D Hope the publishers notice articles like these the next time they make up their crappy excuses for not making fun games anymore.

What games have you been playing? :p

Duhhr Age 2
Mass (Market Appeal) Effect 2
"Fallout" 3 (Although NV sort of makes up for it)
Dungeon Siege 3 :(
Bulletstorm
Oblivion

And many other dumbed down, stripped-out games with as little actual game in them and as much "romance", cutscenes and "quick-time-events" as possible with very llittle improvement in graphics in the last 5 years. Press "A" to make something awesome happen. The publishers like to blame this on there being no market demand for anything other than console shooters or Facebook casual crap.

These and other sales figures prove them wrong. There are still people with IQ's of more than 60 out there.

Okay but those are the bad examples, although I disagree with Mass Effect 2. There are plenty of stellar games out there, console only games included.

I won't be so quick to blame consoles for ruining gaming though. I feel while they have been responsible for some crud (DA2 as an example) there have been some amazing stuff too (Dead Space series, God of War, Gears of War, Uncharted, to name a few).

Like I've said before, I don't blame the consoles. I blame the developers/publishers only focusing on consoles, and trying to make console games for the PC. There's absolutely nothing wrong with console games as long as they are on a console. The problem is they are making the same games for both.

I don't wan't to play the mole-popping action games now called RPG's (even though the game is determined by player reflexes rather than character skill), on my computer. I don't want to play something where I can only save at pre-determined locations. I don't want something that's designed to be finished in an afternoon, using no more than 3 dialogue options and 6 buttons. Those all work fine on consoles, it's a whole different approach. More relaxed/casual if you want. In fact I think they're screwing up console gaming as well by releasing the wrong types of games for that too. First person, Real-time- or Grand Strategy games and RPG's don't belong on a console, it's just wrong. Likewise cover shooters and interactive movies don't belong on a PC.

I strongly disagree with that, but I guess it's a matter of opinion. :)

OK, have fun playing Europa Universalis 3, Shogun 2 or Baldur's Gate on an Xbox 360 then.

Point granted on the RTS front, but playing FPS on console is perfectly fine (the success of the CoD franchise on console shows just how well these titles are doing on that platform), nor is there a problem with RPG's (not talking about BG2 type RPG's since they are all but dead).

Cover shooters on PC is also not a problem. Gears of War was stellar, allowing PC owners to enjoy console-y games on their PC when they might want to play it but might not have access to it otherwise.

My point is we shouldn't be forcing genres onto specific platforms, it creates a needless divide for gamers. I love having the option of choosing which platform I would like to play my games on.

COD they starting to ruined as more focused on console type players aka no Dedicated servers or proper lan functions any more. And it not just piracy to blame look at steam shows there is a market, it just more price sensitive.

I know that's a bad example for quality, but my point there wasn't about good FPS games it was that if they didn't work on consoles then they wouldn't sell so well.

I expect BF3 console sales to lead the PC even though it's lead platform.

That's precisely the point I had all along. RPG's were greatly simplified (gameplay-wise and scope-wise) to make them "multi-platform", and first person. Some people liked it and some committees and focus groups decided that should be the new "Next-Gen" thing. Nowadays you can't find any more proper RPG's and the excuse is that there is no market. The same thing happened to adventure games, they said there was no demand for them.

Fortunately, that passed and we now have adventure games again (Sam & Max, Back to the Future etc.) Not many but at least some. Those are also doing pretty well on Steam last I heard. I think you misunderstoond me there, I'm not against having choices, I'm very much for it. The problem is there isn't any choice, games are made so they work on consoles and PC's and it ends up being a Jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none situation. There's not really any options for those who enjoy a good, rewarding gameplay experience that you can really sink your teeth into.
