This is how crazy the prices of games are in South Africa

Games are way to much.

Doom R700 ..... like how did the games go from being R500 to now R800-R900 upwards.
I would love to play overwatch but then playing that price for a game i might play once a week is a bit overkill.
last game i got was GTA V and SC2 LOTV and i played it for maybe a month and now its just sitting on the PC collecting Updates.

I get that Prices have gone up and piracy is on a all time high, the developers also need to make it worth it in the end but dam. This just fuels the Piracy even more ><

this is just depressing to think about now

This makes me so very very sad!
Seems like yesterday when console Games were R500 and people freaked out, and PC games were R300 max. :(

Yeah quite a few EA console games were under R500 on pre-order a few years back. Now it's double the price...

At least now my backlog is getting the attention it deserves.

Problem is our Rand depreciates at 10%-20% average per year. Salaries only increase by 5%-6% p/y. South Africa is becoming a poorer country every year and our money buys less and less. Unless we fix the system.

Then what are we comparing?

Well considering the Dollar is a strong currency vs our rather weak shithole currency it's not a fair comparison.
Also there are games like the new Tomb Raider, Hitman and a couple of others that came in well below R600 at launch, they were priced according to region so we paid a little less. Seems like other publishers don't give a crap about SA or it's region and charge the standard rate all over the world.

Why the need to play something as its released? There is plenty to keep us busy for affordable prices while waiting for that one game to come down in price.

Look at any game in your collection now. Was it really worth the release price?

I dont think so....

FOMO my friend, that's why. Effective marketing makes it imperative that we play the newest and best games from the very first moment it's available. It's because we all board the hype train so easily, myself included.

Pricing for gaming has indeed gone up to the point of not wanting to purchase any more.

This year alone I've bought (me and bae):

  • 2x The Division - Gold Edition R900 each
  • 2x Overwatch - Origin Edition R900 each

I have to admit though that we did/are getting our money's worth luckily out of these titles.

But I think for the remainder of the year I don't see myself purchasing anything.
I really wanna give the new DOOM a try but will wait till its like 75% off on a Steam Sale ... many years from now.

I remember back in the day I paid R380 for the Far Cry 3 Insanity Edition and R450 for the Darksiders 2 Collectors Edition.

I think we all going to get to the point were no pre-orders will happen and specials will be the way IF pricing keeps on increasing.

I'm with you on that one. Games on special over time is the way to go. Plus bundles and on consoles things Games with Gold and you are sorted. Consoles you can also trade games which have helped a lot!
