This is how game prices hit R1,000 in South Africa: 1998–2016

Absolutely crazy, where's it all going to end. Im not willing to pay R800-R1000 for a game, so I wait for the price drop once its cheaper, wtf!!!

This article does not cover that fact that globally game prices have increased.
For decades the average price of a AAA game tile has been around $60, going back to Atari and NES generations.
This was when a single person or small team could code a game in a few weeks or months. Now it take teams of people, Animators, programmers, writers, voice actors, even live action actors, play testers and a tonne more, all working for a couple of years to make a game that sells for the same price it did almost 30years ago.

Now you can see why company's are milking the DLC and subscription services and in-game purchases. I don't like it but I see why they do it.

So gaming in SA has gotten more expensive but so has every where else.
However online game services like Steam and Origin now charge in Rands and as such games are cheaper than before and if you patient and don't have to play a game as soon as it comes out then gaming is cheaper than ever.
Oh and keep and eye open, the Steam Summer/Winter sale should be hitting soon.

So the prices have remained the same, according to the highlighted sentence? Because according to the rest of your post, you don't agree with yourself.

A while ago, i decided to rather wait till games popup on gumtree 2nd hand (console games). Or wait till there's a 30%+ discount on STEAM a few months later, for PC games.

There's mos no NEED to buy a game on release date, you can always play it later for much cheaper.

True, I do the same. Just not the buying of second hand games. I know I've said this somewhere else, but I'll say it again :D. At the end of 2013 Ni no Kuni was R600, a year and a half later, I got it online for R275.

I am saying that games have always been expensive and that the increased prices is not just a matter of the weak rand. I was explaining the facts and then giving my opinion. I don't agree with increased prices but the facts are what they are.

If you're a xbone or ps4 gamer, like me, the only way to buy games cheaply is to buy them from the Xbox or PS store or cdkeys.com
In stores some 1 year old games still sell for R900, probably because it hasn't been sold since it's been released, so you can't wait for them to get cheaper.

But if you say they've been $60(R900) since forever, and they say it's R800-1000 right now, then you are saying that it's due to the weak Rand, as it's around $60 now as well...
