This Months NAG

Well, its got you all talking about NAG. Mission accomplished?

But seriously, I don't think this was NAG's idea. I'm betting it came from the game's publishers/distributors and was worked into some sort of marketing package.

yeh I dunno hey, i own my own business and i never went through a recession.
actually i made lots of money ^.^

You are lucky. I had to close my company because of the recession. Starting a new job next week Monday and stressing like crazy.

As for the sand in NAG, well I think Tincan got it spot on. We are posing about NAG so they got the publicity that they wanted.

Yeah, probably. NAG doesn't even have their own marketing people. :P They're all too busy playing COD:WAW to come up with this stuff.

I allowed my subscription to lapse after getting the first flimsy magazine from NAG. Gone are the days where you get a little gift for signing up, gone are the decent reviews of hardware etc... The closer it got to January the less I was impressed with the mag.

To be fair L as Azi said earlier times are tough and cutbacks probably need to be made - The only other alternative I should imagine would be another price hike

I stopped buying gaming magazines ages ago I can find better reviews and news regarding games online with a click of a mouse.

When I went to the first shop, and found sand in all the copies, I thought it was a delivery mess up, and didn't buy it. But, then the next shop had the same thing so I figured it was supposed to be like that. I opened mine outside :)

I thought the sand was for Spec Ops: The Line, since it was on the cover and the game is set in a desert. Maybe they trying to show you what it's like being a Specs Ops operative, stationed in the desert, while trying to open your Soldier of Fortune magazine during a sand storm.

Sure, tell that to all the people still getting laid off, including all the guys who lost their jobs when SACM folded last month. The recession's over on paper, but that doesn't magically make it over in reality. The effects will be felt for some time still.

People get laid off all the time. You might want to read up and understand the mechanics of an economy and what a recession is before you start this argument.

Oh, for fuck's sake, spare me the disingenuous condescension. I'm not some snot-nosed kiddie who gets into arguments without knowing what I'm talking about.

The print industry is in serious decline, and the recession hasn't helped at all. Magazines all over the world are closing up - Future Publishing, for example, the biggest publisher in the UK, has posted record shortfalls over the last financial year. Part of the reason for that is because magazines are funded almost entirely by advertising, and because advertisers haven't been spending money.

A magazine like NAG relies on small companies for advertising. During the past period of recession, these companies weren't spending money on advertising. Hence the magazine has suffered, hence SACM (also published by Tide Media) could no longer afford to print. Also consequently, magazines keep work internally, so freelancers like me lose out.

The mechanics of a recession are irrelevant. Point is, people and companies hold onto their money, and this has an outward effect on people whose jobs rely on other people spending money. You know, like everyone.

The recession is officially past, but with back-dated creditors and whatnot, I'm still very much feeling the effect of it.

Are you saying that people aren't still affected by the repurcussions of the recession? It sure looks like that's what you are saying and you know it's not true.

I think he just really has to be right, Solitude. It's every important that he knows all about the economy, and that everyone knows that he knows. Serious business.

I love your avatar. I couldn't help reading your post in his voice. xD

The sand would of been ok if you made sure the dvd was protected properly.
PS. Bring on the second dvd. Just make sure you add a lot more smaller indie games to it.

Even though our economy is coming out of a recession we are still affected by what is happening overseas as a majority of our resources comes from the 1st world countries... So until they are out of a recession and have sorted out their problems and all that... we will still be affected... unless SA has money to setup major branding and branches of Global corporations here in order for us to get supplies easily, but thats not gonna happen so I guess we just sit and wait for the top guys to come right ey

I still don't get how sand in the cover translates to an increase in sales? :D If you're feeling the effects of the recession-past, surely you wouldn't want to piss off your customers?

Oh well, regardless, magazines are outdated to me thanks to the invention of the internet, so my opinion doesn't really matter anymore anyway.

For whatever it's worth, I didn't think it was such a big deal, and neither did a bunch of other people on the NAG forum. It's just a bit of sand.
