This War of Mine

Solitude

Mr. Nice Guy
This War of Mine looks like a game that will make you think about war and life in general. It also looks like it can be an emotional journey and I've been wanting to play it for a long while now. Hopefully that will happen later this month.

About This Game
In This War Of Mine you do not play as an elite soldier, rather a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city; struggling with lack of food, medicine and constant danger from snipers and hostile scavengers. The game provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle.

The pace of This War of Mine is imposed by the day and night cycle. During the day snipers outside stop you from leaving your refuge, so you need to focus on maintaining your hideout: crafting, trading and taking care of your survivors. At night, take one of your civilians on a mission to scavenge through a set of unique locations for items that will help you stay alive.

Make life-and-death decisions driven by your conscience. Try to protect everybody from your shelter or sacrifice some of them for longer-term survival. During war, there are no good or bad decisions; there is only survival. The sooner you realize that, the better.

This War of Mine: Anniversary Edition

It's been two years since This War of Mine global release and we're still expanding the experience. This new free DLC, created especially for the Anniversary Edition, adds new characters, new locations to explore, and most importantly - a whole new ending, leading to a different outcome to the game. The dilemma though remains the same – how far will you go, to protect the ones you care about?

This War of Mine:

Inspired by real-life events
Control your survivors and manage your shelter
Craft weapons, alcohol, beds or stoves – anything that helps you survive
Make decisions - an often unforgiving and emotionally difficult experience
Randomized world and characters every time you start a new game
Charcoal-stylized aesthetics to complement the game's theme

I see the console stores have one called the Little Ones. Not sure if it includes the original content:

PS4: https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/this-war-of-mine-the-little-ones-ps4/

Have any of you played it?

Isn't "The little ones" just a DLC that adds children to the game?

Yeah played it last year I know the Little ones are just dlc.
Its very derpessing and can get you down very quickly so stopped playing it.

I played it for 2-3 hours recently and, while I can see the appeal, I didn't find it relaxing in the least. I felt rushed, stressed and anxious the whole time I played it. I don't think I'll visit the game again soon...

I got it, and never really played. It seemed to jump you in and assume you know the actions, keys etc on how to do things, where to craft things etc.

That put me off quite a bit. There's challenge in games in discovering how mechanics work, and then there's just plain frustration....

I also felt this a little when playing it. it took me a few tries before getting the basics down and surviving for a while.

After restarting the game a couple of times until I understood the mechanics, I played a lot and finished it yesterday.

It's completely different to what I expected. It's a survival game through and through. I can definitely recommend it to people who are willing to try something unique and also a game that doesn't hold your hand. You learn from experience and I think you are supposed to fail before you get it right.
