Trying to discover if there is a relationship between the interface design of a computer-based test, the level of computer literacy of the user and the marks the user gets. I.e. if they have a low level of computer literacy, does it negatively affect their marks when taking a CBT and if so, is there a way to change the interface design to neutralise the loss of marks
Couldn't prove anything though, got a really shitty sample (read, the first year accounting students didn't bother to take my test/survey). Still managed to get a first though, which is astonishing

Wow! Thats facinating. I would imagine it being due more to the fact that people who are not computer literate are "afraid" of computers, thus they are negative and do badly. Where as people who are very computer literate feel more comfortable with the pc and thus they are more relaxed and do well. Sucks that you couldn't prove anything, but i guess its the actual research you get graded for not the results.

Well the fact is you managed to get ur thesis through... with our universities I dont think they really care if you couldnt prove anything works as long as you put in the effort and tried your best and wrote up a conclusive theory then im not suprised u got a distinction...

That's exactly what I expected to find hey. Still, gonna take some study leave, go back next year, re-take the sample and add some more work to the report. Hopefully i'll be able to submit it as a masters dissertation

well he had people open a computer.... if they opened it and took one look and said its fuked they were illiterate... if they studied the parts they were ok and could move on with their lives lmao

Oh ok. I would think give them the survey to do first, Then devide the group in 2 and put equal or close to equal numbers of literate and illiterate people in each group, give one group a test using WebCT and the others doing a normal paper test. Keep the 2 groups aparts and then swap the tests around to see if there is any difference in the results. I wouldn't tell them it was for research then they dont take it seriously and bugger up your results.
