I work for an ecommernce company, we power the Search, category pages & Recommendations for our clients, mostly retail websites. Yesterday afternoon during Magic Hour (16:30 - 17:30) the support desk (which I get coppied in on) gets an email from one of our largest clients saying that instead of 64 products there are only 4 products in one of their primary categories. So immediately we go to defcon 1 and start investigating, I check our control panel, get on the horn to our data feed import guy thinking something went wrong with the latest import (this has happened in the past). Email the client back saying we are looking into it and can she provide us with some example SKUs that are not appearing on the site. As I sent it off I check the front end only to discover that there are infact 68 products in the category as expected. Get the email back with the examples, check the front end, yep everything is there.
Email back to the client saying we see 68, can she try Ctr-F5 and see if its still affecting. And go home thinking issue is resolved. Get in this morning and see an 11 string email in which the CEO of client and My CEO start corresponding. Not the kind of thing you want to see when you get in, in the morning.
