All I'll say is, EA, that is all...

For them to tout something as a social game, then later remove key features because they can't handle the online side of things, seems very dodgy... I'm an outsider looking in, but it still looks dodgy.

I can imagine, yeah. When someone give you a rating of 9.5, then scales it down to 8, before taking it down to 4 because of online issues, then something massive is wrong with what you have planned.
