why can't the drives be formatted?

delete and re-create the partition

How can all of them give the same error...thats weird?

I don't know, but they do.
when I boot up using the disc; when I select the partition and click "Next", that is the error it gives me.

It first tells me it cannot be formatted yada-yada, then gives me that error message at the end.

Note: Only my 2 HDDs [the 2 SATA HDDs give me this error].
Can't format my IDE drive because my ribbon cable only has a connection on either end - one for the DVD writer and one for the mobo.

no no, not format, DELETE. as in make the drive unpartitioned

Hagan try formatting them from Dos so not using the windows CD
