The people trying to bomb him offered larger bribes to the police than he did. It's a basic tender process in a free market system, if you think about it.
OK, seriously, the guy is suspected of being involved in organised crime (almost wrote "organised religion"
) and the attempts on his life were probably from rival crime lords.
