Plushie toy or those silly toys that have the shapes and what not on it, that can only move on the wire frame? That is my go to pressie these days since it is supposedly educational :P And the best is if you have a plastics warehouse near you, you can get one easily.
yeah you can never go wrong with a stuffed toy

i want ultimate marvel vs capcom 3, but the sale is ending by around 12 noon and xbox.com wont allow me to purchase without a verification code which it is sending to my home email ! aaaargh

OK, do you want to make (a) the baby happy or (b) the parents happy?
if (a) buy him anyhting he can shake that makes noise.
if (b) buy clothes or nappies.

Thanks Pooky, same to you.

The baby - the parents have their own presents.
The shaky/noisy thing is what I was thinking.

At 5 months kids still need to be stimulated in basic ways. The plush toy is not a bad idea either (stimulates the "touch" sense) but chances are the kid already have enough to drown in if you thrown them all at him.
A brightly colored noise maker will stimulate both visual and audio senses. Plus he will learn that an action (shake) has a consequence (noise), which is more than the little bastard that tried to break my ribs on Sunday ever learned.
Oh, yeah, and if the rattle makes enough noise, he could possible also learn where his parents hide stuff :D

Informative. Helpful. Scientifically sound. Good job.

Malice - he's got a mobile - this is why it's so hard to buy the kid anything.

ok well here's a crazy idea. how about getting the baby.... NOTHING! cause he's not going to remember that uncle Murph didn't get him anything for Christmas. he doesn't even know who you are

Android or Windows?

Edit: Stoopid question, sorry. Kids that young doesn't have any OS preferences yet.
he's 5 months old, so it'll be Apple for now till he's more self aware
