If that was a residential area, you would kak in terms of fines and punishment.

I have a court hearing for doing 93 in a 60 on Vanguard Drive. Possible punishment includes R10 000 fine, license suspension of 6 months and/or 10 days jail time :(

It's a piece of road next to a township, Brandvlei. I have the option of a court hearing, but will rather pay the fine and get it over and done with. Like I said, normally I do slack of there, but my mind was just wandering that day. Good luck with your hearing.

Edit : Paid the two local ones this morning, the big one I have to pay at the Magistrate in Randfontein.

Yeah it depends on whether it's in a residential area or not. Residential if you're doing 91+, there's no Admission of Guilt and it's straight to court.

Never got a fine when I was living in Gauteng. Took me 3 days in Cape Town to get 2 fines though. 100 in an 80 zone (could have sworn it was a 100 zone) and 82 in a 60 zone (down hill from Pringle Bay to Rooiels)

Metro police. They want your ass. By ass I mean money.

Ye speed fines I can't find sympathy for, had too much bad shit happen where speed was involved ...... not hating on ya, just not sending any feels

Speed does not kill; Not being able to control your vehicle at speed and/or not doing proper observations is what actually causes accidents. What kills is coming to a sudden stop.

I usually never speed, and honestly thought those areas had higher speed limits.

On a related note, I recently downloaded the Discovery Insure app. It measures your driving trips and gives you a score based on speed, harsh movement and braking. I like checking my own stats and try to get as close to 5 stars as possible. I think it's a good initiative.

Don't give a fuck (to be crude) - people I know have been hurt and killed when a vehicle going too fast was involved. Less speed and more control is better than more speed and the chance at no control

it actually does... the faster you go the less control you have over the vehicle...you also have to remember just because you know what you are doing doesnt mean the rest of the people on the road does.

I just wish they would trap more in spots were it's really dangerous to speed, but they rather pick big straight roads where there are never any accidents because they get to issue more fines that way, and the dodgy spots where people crash a lot, they ignore because less people speed there.

Edit: Eg, I got a R200 fine on a big 3 lane dead straight road for going about 75 in a 60 zone. The speed limit increased to 90 a couple hundred meters down the road, and I was speeding up as I approached it, but the metro cop says that it's 60 until you get to the sign, so tough.

I've never seen any accidents on that stretch of road and I drive it twice a day, but they set up speed traps there all the time.
