Thread of PC Woes, Troubles, Problems, and Issues

Okay guys, I've got a bit of a problem. I recently got my ADSL line installed, and to get my PC connected, I bought a wireless USA adapter, TRENDnet TEW-648UBM device. This is because my router now is located in the next room from my PC. Everything was going great, and I managed to get connected quickly. But Last night I started having problems with it. My wireless connection keeps on timing out, it will lose internet connection and tell me that it has "Limited or No Internet Connection". This is very infuriating, as my cellphone and Xbox connects to the same wireless without any problems. Due to this it cannot be the router. But to temporarily get onto the internet again, I can just unplug and plug-in my wireless adapter and it works again fine, for about 20 minutes or so.

I've tried setting up the wireless connection manually, download and install the latest drivers, but the problem still persists. This is very irritating, as my downloads cannot complete as the connection drops every now and then...Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Have you tried connecting via LAN cable?

What router and/or modem are you using, because some may have faulty signals...

Make sure that your ADSL filters are all in working conditions

LAN cables are working fine, but the PC and router are not in the same room, and I'm too lazy to run a cable through the roof. The wireless router works perfectly, as the other 2 devices connected to it works perfectly and no connection issues are experienced. I have a Netgear n300 Wireless ADSL2+ router.

hmmmm.

And you adsl filters are fine i assume?

Have you tried moving your computer? I used to have my PC on a box to keep it off the floor and I also started having wireless problems. I put the PC on my table and that sorted the problem. I am connecting through two thick reinforced concrete walls (old style, so lots of reinforcing.)

Yes indeed it is. Like I said, other devices connected to the wireless router works perfectly without any drops.

Interesting, currently the box is on the floor, but my connection only has to go through 1 wall. I'll try that and see if it helps thanks.

I'm having the exact same problem except my wireless is onboard. I don't know what to do! :(

Wireless connections can sometime be fickle. Was also having issues with my laptop showing connected but no net connection. Other devices working fine though. I switched the two access points around and now suddenly it works great (touch wood). It's two different makes so I'm thinking of maybe changing the one to the same brand/model as the stronger one.

Setup is currently : An Asus adsl router (next door at work), connected via Ethernet wire to an Asus access point (at home), and another D-link access point connected to the Asus AP. The D-Link is set to bridge mode, so only allows wired connections though, but this works great for my consoles and media players. The Asus AP has 3x9dbi antennas and covers basically my whole house with wireless coverage.

Interesting setup. It seems as if I've got it covered, to some extent. Does drop from time to time, but seems more stable than before. I moved my PC to on top of my desk and seems to be better.

Right, time to chronicle my issue.

My PC started giving me bluescreens about 6 weeks ago. It seemed random at first, but mostly happened while I am playnig CS:GO. Didn't make much of that, because I play CS:GO 80% of the time.

Bluescreen message: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

So first suspicions with bluescreens are usually memory or overheating. I haven't gotten around to replacing memory yet, but I'll get to that part...

Check my CPU temperature, and it's hot. Idling at about 70° and hitting 90° when busy. Okay, new thermal paste, clean out the fan, dust out the box, temperature sorted, idling at 47° and peaks at about 58°.

I thought my problem had gone away. Played some more CS for a a few hours, and boom, bluescreen.

So I check Google for the Bluescreen message and it could mean faulty memory OR a faulty hard drive. I thought nothing of it, and tried to start up CS again. This time, Steam wanted me to verify my game files for CS:GO. So I tell it to go ahead and went and made me a sandwich. Half an hour later, blue screen.

*sigh*

I'm at the point where I suspect it's the hard disk. I've run a 24h memory diagnostic (on advanced mode) in Windows 7, it tells me the memory is fine.

I run a chkdsk /f /r on my hard drive... it gets stuck.

So I THINK i've narrowed it down to the hard drive.

So after this long story, I guess my question is:
How do I confirm it's the hard drive? It might also be the hard drive controller on the motherboard, couldn't it? What is my next step to test?

I'd suggest downloading a hard drive test utility such as this one from Seagate or one from your hard drive manufacturer, running that and then seeing if it finds any errors. Also if you have another computer you could put your hard drive in their and test it.

Also to test memory I'd suggest using something like Memtest86+ and letting that run overnight to see if your memory is having any errors, it performs a lot of tests on the memory. I'm not sure how good the Windows 7 memory diagnostic is compared to it, but it's good to get a second opinion :)
