Oh, two very good C++ books I can recommend is :

Object Oriented Programming in C++ by Nicolai M. Josuttis (ISBN 9780470843994)
Beginning C++ Through Game Programming by Michael Dawson (ISBN 9781435457423)

Personally I would suggest to start with one of the older and more widely used languages like C/C++ and then build to the newer generation of languages like Java (which is a lot like C to be very honest)

I find a lot of languages are using the C type of syntax, like Java, Javascript, Actionscript (for Flash so dying out these days), C#, so ya, that's better to learn than something like VB, which I used primarily for many years before making the change to C#. It's much nicer working in C# in the back-end because it's way easier to jump between Javascript and C# than Javascript and VB.

Yup, SA is one of the countries with the largest developer base. There are a lot of development outsourcing companies based in South Africa (the majority in Cape Town)

That is an interesting thing to know, my wife and I were pondering about possibly moving to Cape Town at some stage, and if there's a lof of dev work there, it might be a good move.

Ai ai Dochie. . . .

You have worse luck than me

yip luckily its just the rear bumper and the panel below the light ! rear bumper is R5000 and the panel R300 and the panel beating company will reuse the rear spoiler on the bumper, they're going to forward a quote to the trucking company responsible for the damages and they'll pay via their insurance or cash. I tried to squeeze an Audi S3 rear bumper out of this incident from the panel beater but its double the price of the a3 bumper so thats not gonna happen :(
