Everyone has a brand of hard drive that works for them, and one that dies on them... I don't bother with Western Digital anymore, had too many go kaput... Others have had no problems...
On that note, mornin' folks!
Case and pointOh, and stay away from green drives!
Get an AV Reciever, it makes all the difference in the world.
Any suggestions on an av receiver?
Firstly, how many devices do you want to push through this? DSTV, XBONE/PS3/PS4/XB360, DVD, BLURAY, TV(s)?
Also keep in mind that you can chain some devices that have inputs (ie if you Bluray has an HDMI input you can use that for something else to spare an input HDMI port on the AV reciever) More HDMI inputs generally = more $$$ to fork out. Generally I would suggest you get one that is powerful enough run your speakers. Generally 150W per channel is enough.
I'm very biased towards the Yamaha AV receivers (check out the RX-V677)... Try 6 HDMI inputs and you are able to stream to it from mobile devices if it is connected to your WiFi/LAN. Yes it will cost you an arm and a leg, but you'll never need to worry about your DVD/Bluray/etc devices ever again. Most of these now support 4K resolution.
What I have found very useful is that my DSTV (HD PVR) was extremely quiet, so I'm boosting the audio on there, whereas the gaming devices each have a different audio profile. Even the Wii is connected via RCA cables to the AV receiver and it (the AV receiver) pushes it to the TV as HDMI (upscaled and color corrected). It's complete overkill to give you complete control.
Thanks I have a HD PVR connected through the xbox one/360, LG 3d Bluray and Samsung 40" connected at the moment with my wii and laptop connected to my 32" so using the TV sound.
Why must accommodation be so expensive in Centurion... Sigh
Greetings plebs
For rental?
Yeah, rental.
I'm moving soon, and it's been a hassle and half to find something affordable, but at least options are there (I just need to seal the deal with one)... This coming month is going to a mission in terms of living costs though...
Cool, so you don't have any weird or strange devices that could be an issue.
Do yourself a favor and go look at an AV receiver, what you do have to keep in mind is that you will almost never need to replace it, even if you want biggger or better speakers, new TV (even 4K), etc... it will set you back some serious $$$'s.
See its a sign! Move to Cape Town!
