All this talk of leg day... I had to skip my workout this morning, so I'm gonna have to squeeze it in between work and Risk tonight... Its hot and humid out so I'm feeling groggy. Don't know if I'll want to take a pre-workout that late in the day though.

I had to skip my walk this morning, woke up too late and the heat and humidity is bloody mad today. Will do a session on the punchbag late this afternoon to make up for it ....... maybe weights too and then jump in the pool after.

Urgh...do I go Haswell/Broadwell or Skylake?

I currently have an Ivy Bridge i5 3470 with 4GB (2x 2GB DDR3 1600MHz) and a Z75 Mobo, do I go:

Z97 + i5 4590 and carry over the RAM OR!?!

Z170 + i5 6600 and 1x 8GB 3000MHz DDR4?

DDR3 ram breaks the Skylake

Yes, but the performance difference between a Z97 + i5 4590 + DDR 3 vs Z170 + i5 6600 + DDR 4 is 15% give or take, but it's about R1500 more and I'm trying to justify it...to my SO...

15% for R1500. That's R100 for per 1% performance increase. and what is R100 these days in this economy

I've got a Z97 + 4590k and I haven't been able to come near taxing the CPU yet. I doubt most normal uses would be able to tax it for the next 3 years even...

I'd say keep the current RAM and go with the Z97 + 4590 and use the money on something else, like a Steelseries APEX keyboard. :p

:D Already have a steelseries keyboard and the force is strong in that one. Are you running a single GPU or SLI/Crossfire?

Nah, single GPU. But I don't think it will make any difference really... Besides, I've got a mini gaming PC (Bitfenix Colossus M) and there won't be any space for a second GPU. Unless I go the ASUS 970 Turbo in SLI route...

If you don't plan on overclocking or going SLI, or if you won't want DDR4 RAM faster than 2133 you don't have to get the Z170 chipset. Then you might as well go for a lower chipset like H170 or B150.

Then it only works out to R800 more for the Skylake setup :p

If you go with the Z97 setup, perhaps look at getting another 4GB RAM.
