Thanks for the links guys, I will have a look and also forward to my wife. We do have an evening routine of eating, bathing, getting dressed and then off to the cot to sleep. This usually works but not always.
Unfortunately evenings are rushed when my wife is working, because she works until 7pm. So I pick him up from daycare at 5pm (at the earliest) and then get home, eat, bath and bed; he is tired and starts getting fussy around 6pm. Bedtime is anywhere from 6 to 6:30. So the winding down bit doesn't really happen because there is no time for it.

I'll see what we can take from this to perhaps include in our pattern or to change our pattern.

If there's one thing I can't stress enough is, kids need a routine!

Yeah, the spin down is important. My little one is sometimes so hyper coming from creche that he just needs to sit down and watch TV for a minute. Or sit down and have a biscuit. The one thing we're drilling into him is to sit down and eat. Sit, get a cookie, eat cookie while seated.

Yeah that we know, so we eat and bathe at the same time every evening. It helped a lot with the initial getting to sleep part.

What we have to sort out now is the rest of the night. He still wakes up several times during the night.

Could be sleep regression or separation anxiety

Whenever he eats we still put him in his high chair, and for the first few minutes he will sit and eat, but then he starts turning around and trying to stand up.
Getting him to stay seated is a real mission.

Yeah, same issue. Though he's very well behaved he sometimes leaves stuff on the couch or table and have to remind him, "That doesn't belong there, where does it go?!"

I really need to get him a little table and chair to eat at.

Yeah, I was very fortunate in that he started sleeping through from about 4 months old.

He was sick a week ago, so he slept badly which is understandable.
Then for 2 or 3 nights in the beginning of the week he woke up only once during the night to drink and that was it. Sweet sleep was had.
Now he is back to waking up several times

My little guy stopped just after he was 1 now for the most part he sleeps all the way through before that he used to wake up constantly

And sometimes it's just trail and error. I have been fortunate in that my one has been sleeping though from about 4-6 months. He does however sometimes semi-wake up to look for his pacifier or a blanket, but it's the exception rather than the rule.

We have been switching on the fan in his room for the last couple of weeks due to the heat (his room is west facing and gets all the afternoon sun) and the white noise seems to help him sleep. However I cannot stress the importance of consistence in the application of routine and the gradual introduction of new elements if required.

Is this the new job you got in Cape Town?

Well firstly that was for a new proposed position with the same company, as my then department was moving to CPT. And no, it's not that position as that turned out to be smoke and mirrors and empty promises, so I moved to testing department which is where I am now. Quality Assurance Profession (so they call it).

The things you do at work when bored (waiting for new packages);

 • Newton’s First Law of Motion: An object at rest tends to stay at rest until acted upon by an outside force. An object in motion tends to stay in motion in a straight line until acted upon by an outside force.
 • Newton’s Second Law of Motion: Describes how an object’s velocity changes when an external force is applied. F=m*a where F is the force applied, m is the mass of the object to which the force is being applied, and a is the acceleration that the object experiences because of the force. It may also be described as the change in momentum over the change in time. Momentum [P] is equal to an object’s velocity times the object’s mass or P=m*v. Since the change in mass (at low relativistic speeds) is negligible, it effectively becomes mass times the change in velocity over the change in time. F= dP/dt= d(m*v)/dt = m(dv/dt). In this formula, “d” indicates “a change in”. It’s really cool stuff.
 • Newton’s Third Law of Motion: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Basically the weight (force) you exert on the earth by standing on it, the earth exerts that force on you. In the context of space, if you and your best friend are hugging it out bro-style in space suits over the Earth when one of you decides to push the other away, you both fly away from each other. Neither of you will experience zero change in velocity. The change in velocity depends on your mass.

Done this so far with my Airbrush. Crzwaco
