so .............. If I wanna use my PC for all media through my TV, is there some kinda remote or something out there I can get? Not keen on the up down up down for volume changes and pause/starts

I used to use a wireless trackball mouse. Worked pretty good.
Side note: 999 bottles beer on the wall

I have a lap top connected to my TV permanently for this exact purpose... There is a little "remote" like device also known as a "mouse" that i find works perfectly at a fair distance...

I use this, also hook my PC up to my main TV, and with this it works as an air mouse and has a full qwerty keyboard also with volume controls etc.
Once you get used to the movement of the mouse it works great.

That second one looks really nice, the first probably has more functionality judging from the buttons. Can you get either locally, or would you have to import them?

the more function one is in stock with Takealot but the cooler one is out of stock with them at the moment. I do prefer the second one quite a bit so hopefully I can find another seller.
