Morning, everyone. I got the flu something fierce, and spiked a fever during the night, so I'm staying in bed today.
Solitude: Ouch! I hope she got some good painkillers to go with the staples!
Wyvern: Why are you going back to bed? Also sick? Or study leave?
Nope I just wish, I spent most of the weekend in bed, just had no energy so slept a lot.
Soli, I just find it odd, it does depend on the age of the doctor tho I have learnt, the younger they are the more likely they will use staples. I have just been taught to always ask for stitches.
I have no idea how old the doctor is. She's got normal stitches on her forehead though.
They use staples on the head though, they hold better under the tension and stresses.

I'm with Wyvern on this one. Staples are used if the doctor is inexperienced, the emergency room is backed up hectically and you need to save loads of time, the doctor has trouble getting stitches through the relatively thick skin of the head, or the patient struggles too much to put in stitches safely. While the staples do hold tension better, like PsychoFish said, stitches hold it well enough, and leave lots less scarring and typically heal better. Source: Have had to hold some patients hands while wife put in stitches, and had to listen to wife complain about doctors who put in staples rather than stitches.
Personally I prefer skin glue, however it would not have worked on that wound. Depending on the quality of the doctor and time required they might opt for the staples (as mentioned by Avatar) if they need to rush. When it comes to head wounds your blood loss is rapid and stitches take way longer than the staples. Staples can heal nicer than stitches, except if the doctor took their time and did decent stitches. Rough quick stitching will scar like a mofo.
Fun fact: Skin glue is pretty much plain old superglue.
I would guess that if you were experiencing rapid blood loss due to a head wound, that something else would have to be done other than just stapling or stitching or glueing.. But that's just a guess. I'll also chat to the SO about it tonight.
It seems to be doctor preference to use clips or stitches, however you wont use clips in "sensitive" areas like the face, since very well done stitches will leave very little scarring. Badly done stitches wont heal pretty though.
Several reasons to use clips in that specific area over stitches (underneath the hair line):
Although clips leave uglier scars than stitches, this is underneath her hair so it won't matter as much - the advantage is clips leave smaller scars (surface area wise) so more hair will grow back.
Chance for infection with clips underneath the hair is less than with stitches.
If it is a badly bleeding wound clips work better to close the wound than stitches.
She also says it won't have anything to do with laziness, which is probably correct since the doctor did put stitches on hear forehead. If he was indeed lazy he would probably have attempted to use staples there as well.
However none of us were there, so I don't think any of us can really say if he was lazy or not, etc. I will tend to listen to my wife though since she has been working in the Casualties unit now for quite some time. None of us do.
DieGrootHammer how is the Training still going?

So who is Hungry?
Did you buy that somewhere or did you make it yourself?DieGrootHammer , this is going to help me so much! Should maybe look into something similar

I did get to assist with putting stitches in three different Casualties around the country, though, and I can safely say that I won't be trading my day job in anytime soon!![]()
Got it from a guy in Centurion
