from the parts that I have knowledge of most of it seems pretty accurate

but that is of course raw costs. it doesn't take things like Monday night burger specials and groupons and happy-hour into consideration

Woohoo! I can taste the weekend.

Tastes like tacos.

You dare to drag me into TK. You know you people scare me. Dude cape town is not that expensive. It all depends on where you live. Farther from the city = cheaper.

Just move already.

I'm doing SMDP (Senior Management Development Program), an NQF level 7 program through the University of Stellenbosch Business School. It's the next step I need before doing EPD (Executive Development Program). Once completed with both those, I can get 1 year off from doing an MBA, which is the ultimate goal.

Good luck. We don't like MBA's here at work.

That data is not accurate. I know for a fact that places like Pick n Pay has national pricing structures, so something in Gauteng would cost exactly the same as is Durban and Cape Town and Putsonderwater. Most retailers for groceries and stuff are the exact same price as any other place. As for housing, as anywhere else is South Africa, there are expensive areas and there are cheap areas. I think that Cape Town has a higher percentage of expensive areas than other metros, but like people said, the further you are from the city itself, the cheaper it gets. Then, activities and other expenses; there are a high number of tourist traps and tourist places in Cape Town, and those areas are expensive. But there are an obscene amount of places you can go to and have a good time for little to no money.

I would honestly say that this whole Cape Town is expensive rhetoric is overexaggerated and misleading

Good luck. We don't like MBA's here at work.

Thanks, but why don't you guys like MBA's?

Thanks!!! I'm really looking forward to it. Studying and working over weekends sucks yes, but it's all worth it in the end

Hmmm maybe you can motivate me. I've got a personal project that I've been busy with, well for a long time. I used to work over weekends but lost motivation.

Nice! I've got to get rid of my monster commute so that I can afford to do my Masters. For now, I'm just assisting the SO with hers.

I've got something similar, where my personal project gets eaten up by Dota and small things that distract me. Maybe we should start a thing similar to your MyGame initiative, where we all jump on Discord or something to keep each other company for an hour or two over weekends to get through our personal projects. Just keep each other accountable.

I like this idea. I tend to struggle with motivation as well from time to time. Luckily my studies are so interesting that it's in any case something that I am doing and reading about in my spare time, but doing assignments and projects gets less motivation. I'm completely up for something like this.

Also, I got The Rock Clock for extra motivation as well. It's a simple idea, and will probably not work if you don't like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, but so far it's been helping me keeping motivated and focused on what I want to achieve

I've used a tomodoro timer before, to great effect. I should actually go look for one now again. I used to have one called tomatodoro, or something like that, but I'm sure there are hundreds out there.

I like using The Rock Clock, as I find The Rock an incredibly inspiring person. Plus each day there is a, albeit cheesy, motivational message or video from him personally, which is a nice touch. It feels at the end like there is someone else that is invested in me accomplishing my goals. I'll also check out this tomodoro you speak of

*Pomodoro (my bad) is simple; focus real hard for 25 minutes, then an alarm tells you to take a break. 5 Minutes later, an alarm tells you to focus real hard again. The main drawback I've found is that I have difficulty interrupting my workflow/train of thought at the buzz of an alarm, often then working through the "break time" to finish a thought or step. Then, I'd have to take a break manually, which makes me lose track of time, so i break for 30 minutes.. :D

Bosses friend is a MBA. He got him to buy a Mom and Pop company and they expected it to make big bucks, the thing is a dud, technically bankrupt. Plus he let the guy keep the company bakkie to sell for himself. The MBA said you just need to sell four a month when the previous owner never even sold four a year.

So consequently we now we think that MBA's are poephoels that draw graphs and make problems.
