greetings !

doing 5 days worth of work in 4 days is not fun

I will do that! YOu can do this for me:

Assignment 08:
"GREED IS GOOD!"

Or should we say "Is greed good?" perhaps?

Either way, how different is this from the last section which had pages and pages of reading?! Here we jump straight into the assignment.

But a little hint before you do jump straight in: our experience to date has shown us that students tend to do a lot worse in this assignment than in the previous one. Somehow it seems that students seem to just forget all of what we have been telling you up till this point. So here is a little reminder:
• Don't copy!
• Submit on time;
• Answer all the questions;
• Go back and read the theory before you make reference to it because your use must show us that you have actually grasped it;
• Try to think about whether your answer here is consistent with your previous answers;
• And finally you must really think hard about the answer here.
Don't let the ball drop at this late stage please!!!

So what is it that you need to do?

STEP 2:

(Note: you must log into myUnisa to do this. You cannot do it on the Digi-Band)

Now you need to go to the “Assign 08: Greed is Good” topic in the assignment 8 discussion forum and post a comment (4 or 5 paragraphs). There are again two parts to this assignment:

Part A - counts 60% of the grade

This is the technical part of this assignment. Here we want you to reflect on the speech you have just heard or read from the perspective of the following three traditions that you learned about in the Ethics Core:
• “Do the right thing - Deontology” – here we want you to think about what Kant might have said about Gekko's speech (Hint: you might want to go and look at what you wrote in Assignment 02);
• “ME, ME, ME! - Egoism” – here we want you to think about how Gekko’s speech might resonate with an egoist world view (please go and re-read the Learning Unit on greed and self interest carefully here); and finally
• “Fair’s Fair - Distributive Justice” – here you can chose any angle you like. Surprise us!
You need to reflect on ALL THREE and from this reflection we should be able to see that you have actually understood the concepts that you use.

Part B - counts 40% of the grade
In addition to this, we want you to return to your assignment 4 answer and write a paragraph in which you examine whether the opinion (after you took the egoist hat off) that you presented in assignment 4 is compatible with the opinion which you have expressed here.To do this please:
• Summarize the opinion you expressed in Assignment 4;
• Tell us whether the opinion you expressed there and your opinion on what is being said in this speech are:
o completely compatible,
o a little bit uncomfortable,
o totally incompatible, or
o incomparable.
• Explain your reasoning
(Remember - as you go through this assignment, don't forget the three questions which emerged out of our discussion of virtue ethics: Do I really practice these values?; Can I really claim that these are my virtues? Is what I am saying really what I do?)

Sup folks.

I'd like to just say, every time someone other than Hagan decides to change their avatar (yes, even those who make it similar to their OG avatar), stop freaking me out with your changes. Especially when they're similar to your previous ones because I end questioning my sanity (was it always like this?), you lunatics :P!
