Time for a speaker upgrade.

My Altec Lansing VS2420s are no longer doing it for me.

Are there any 2.0 or 2.1 speaker sets in the R500-R600 range [so that definitely rules out anything from BOSE :p] that you would recommend, given that they would be used for listening to classical music, and gaming. It would be a bonus if I could use them with my Samsung Series 3 LCD tv and Xbox 360 or PS3.

I don't need uber powerful speakers, so it won;t matter to me if the Real Measured Sound rating is low.
My current sound hardware is onboard an MSI Z68 ED55 motherboard.

Thank you

I got a set of Logitech x530s that I bought almost 2years ago.. very happy with it and no problems to this day.. I found it on special for R599. At the moment they are abit more expensive (probably R800 - R1000)If you can suck up another few hundred, I would definitely recommend them. HiFi corp had a special on them for R599 last month, not sure if it is still going.. They are 5.1 btw.
Here is what they look like:

I think think I'll stick to 2.0 or 2.1 speaker sets: I had a 4.1 set once, and found I didn't have space to position them correctly.

pitty, they are quite alot more powerful than any 2.1 that ive used and still good value for money i think..good luck finding your solution..

Logitech. Just get Logitech, you wont regret it like you surely will with going for a lesser known brand. I've had my X-230's since 2007 and never once felt like I needed an upgrade, they rock HARD. :)

Lesser-known is not always bad. Until last work, for example, I had not heard of Teufel, Klipsch or BOSE, and by all accounts they are pretty good. Come to think of it, I only recently found out about Corsair speakers...

But I get what you are saying.

True that. Still want the exact same pair ... Though, I haven't seen 'em advertised anywhere, but the Logitech Z323 is definitely a consideration, when I'm able to afford it, cause all my money's gonna go to GW2 now. :)

The 230's are awesome. You can rattle the windows with those things. I have :P

I haven't done any more reading up on speakers, and as this month is going to be tight financially, the soonest I would get them would be next month.

@Murph: Oh, I wouldn't be turning the volume up much. I share a house with other people who would not appreciate that.

Well then you'll be glad to know that at medium-soft volume they sound just as good.

So I received my X-530s today. Needless to say, I'm flippin happy about my purchase... No wait! Scrap that! My investment.

+1 for Logitechs. You can pick up a set of Z313s for about R500 and they are pretty decent.

A lesser known brand - the Divoom XForce1s go for about R450 (60W RMS). They have hit quite a sweet spot with those speakers.
