I remember when Unreal came out...
My dad had recently kitted me out with a Pentium 2 MMX, which with my limited knowledge of WTF I was doing, I managed to "overclock" to 450MHz. It had 512MB of RAM if memory serves.
The real grunt came from the totally sweet Voodoo 2 8MB GPU.
When I fired up unreal and saw that Nali Castle fly-by my mind was blown; it really was like Voodoo magic or something. How far we have come!

If those are games that aged badly what are games that aged well?
People still play Doom, Deus Ex and Duke 3D.
I really missed the point of that article, bashing bad graphics by today's standards. I refer back to Razer's list of gaming commandments "Thou shall value game play over graphics".

Yeah I think some people get confused when guys say stuff like gameplay over graphics. Visuals still matter, they just aren't the most important thing.
Gameplay > graphics is a statement I've had an issue with for a while now. There's a lot of people who would like to make it out that visuals don't matter at all, when this is simply not true. Sure, it's true, great graphics can't save a bad game, but graphics actually have a major impact on your game experience as well. I'm not going to skip a game because of graphics, but it really is nice if while you're enjoying an amazing game you've got equally amazing graphics too look at.
Note, though, I don't necessarily mean photorealistic. Borderlands is still one of the better-looking games released in recent years, in my opinion. Art style is very important.
Edit: Also, I think 2D isometric games also age pretty well. Looking at something like Divine Divinity or Nox, they can't really be called ugly. I still find them visually pleasing.
well playing quake still rocks and there are mods that upgrade the graphics substantially
