HI peeps,
Disclaimer: I have not played Titanfall and do not own it. I only comment on my observations and perceptions based on other's experience with Titanfall.
I have a bit of a question/idea/issue/possible debate running in my head for the past few weeks.
CoD and Battlefield has been the FPS kingpins for the last decade. That said, I have seen a decline in excitement with every new version of these games being released. Partly because the genre has been saturated with WW1/2 and modern warfare type games based on some propaganda machine or terrorist or bad country trying to blow the planet up. The other reason is probably because there has not been any real innovation in these games.
Yes, they provide solid gameplay but there has not been a real game changer for a while.
Then Titanfall was announced and everyone, including me, got all excited and giddy. I really thought that this game is going to define the FPS shooter for the next gen of shooters. I was excited for the mech battles and the parkour style run and gun action.
But then I watched the YouTube peeps play it. Yes, it looked absolutely beautiful and exciting the first few months after release, but I also saw how stale it became for those players rather quickly after release.
CoD kept us entertained for quite some time after release and I have put it down after I reached my Prestige Master and diamond snipers because I just got tired of Blops2, but I just couldn't keep away for longer than 3 months.
Come of the prominent YouTube players has said that Titanfall has become boring and stale for them quite quickly. These same peeps went back to Blops 2 and Ghosts or Battlefield 3/4.
So, my thoughts are as follows:
Is Titanfall just a white elephant that wow'd us on release and is fading into obscurity or is it here to stay?
Will CoD and Battlefield, with it's reused story themes and solid game play stay relevant in this day and age?
I am excited to see what CoD: Advanced Warfare is going to bring to the table though and I really hope that it will breath some new life into the CoD series and FPS's in general.
Gamer for life I guess. lol
