To buy another PS3?

So short story, we got robbed last week and they grabbed my PS3. Trying to decide if it's worth replacing to finish things like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, still need to play GoW and KZ.

But with the PS4 coming up at the end of the year, I'm trying to weigh up my options at rather just saving that money for that and see if I can find a good friend to lend me their PS3 for like a week or 2 :p

What do you guys reckon? Would you replace your PS3 if something happened to it now? :)

I did look at prices and best I could find was R2550 for a 320gig Slim (not super slim)

That is a good deal.

Does your insurance cover your PS3 or not?

have you started to put money away for a PS4?

perhaps most people would just say wait and get the new one.

It also depends on how many PS3 titles you currently own. And how sentimental you are towards the games.

PS4 won't support PS3 discs so if you want to be able to play your older titles or if you feel a case of nostalgia in the future then you still have the PS3 for your titles. PS4 will support streaming of older PS3 titles, much like Steam but through Gaikai. So you will be able to stream games to your PS4 from the PS3 catalogue BUT you might need to purchase them again.

If you loved the PS3 and have a good library of games, I would buy a PS3 again. Not like the PS4 will only be on sale for a week and then vanish from the market forever.

I would wait. Do you have any other means to play games? I wouldn't even buy one if you have a large collection of ps3 games. Its always a nice thought, i will go back to my old games. But I find in general there are so many cool games coming out you don't even have time for the new games, let alone go play an old game.

Because PS4 will not supporting Ps3 disks or digital copies YET, I'm in no hurry to upgrade. When I do I will probably still keep my PS3. Some of the next gen titles will also be released on current gen consoles hopefully we will see more..

I have a PC so I can still play some games. I'm not even too phased about playing old games on my PS3, I'm just really keen to finish Last of Us and for some of the upcoming new releases, as well as a few titles I have yet to play.

My first thought is to wait and try borrow a friend's PS3 if I can find 1 that'll let me. My saved games are in the cloud so at least I should just be able to login and continue :)

Thinking of replacing my current busted one...

Today only:

320GB PS3, GoW 3, Uncharted 3 GOTY and WWE2012 - R2499

But a small part of me is telling me not to bother.

I've got both those feelings, 1 part of me wants to replace it but my better judgement is saying to rather just wait. I'd also probably either look at finding a good 2nd hand deal or try find 1 of the older Slim versions for cheaper. I vastly prefer that version over that Super slim model :[

Either way, that's not a bad price, I still have finish Uncharted 3, buy Last of Us, get back Killzone 3 MP etc. etc.

I would buy a new ps3 and then save for the PS4, since it isnt a bad thing having both.

Get a new ps3.Every gamer knows that the first of any new release of a gaming console will have flaws in it.
Plus there are so many games still available on ps3.Just don't go spending over R3K for one. There are great deals out there, but I suggest you insure it just in case.
They say that robbers will always try to break in a second time.

Honestly I would wait it out and just get the new one, I'm gonna trade all my games away closer to PS3 launch. Get credit at BT Games and sell my PS3 too. :-0

I love Btgames,...but their trade in for games are so low,I'd rather sell my games to a friend or something I'd get more money out of it.

I see you haven't finished The Last of Us? Then the answer is simple. Get a new PS3.

Unfortunately :( Got about 8 hours in and then left for a week to the Drakensberg. Should have listened to my instincts when I was packing that was telling me to pack my PS3 in case there was nothing to do in the evenings >.<

Will the price of PS3's drop at all when the PS4 hits though? I mean I'm kinda expecting it to hit at 4-5k and if the price of the PS3 is already 2.5k, I can't see it doing anything. Just wondering how much I would be able to sell it for if I did decide to try buy 1 :/

They may drop, but hell - you still pay +- R1500 for a PS2 most of the time.

this what I would do in all honesty.

Wait till you find an unbeatable deal on a PS3. there is bound to be one November, December time surely. Then get that and finish off your last few PS3 games while they iron out the kinks of the PS4. (There will be some issues with PS4/Xbox at launch Im sure of it.)
