Hey guys,

I'm thinking of upgrading to DDR3 ram, but is it really worth it?
Input is much appreciated

Mmmmm nope..unless you want to spend some serious cash on a new motherboard and an i7 cpu. If you have the cash go for it if not your current rig is more than capable of playing any and all games available.

I concur. It is well documented that the real-world benefits of DDR3 are practically non existent.

There is no point upgrading. However, I would recommend DDR3 to those building a new rig for the sake of future proofing etc.

Which will be in my case...... sometime next year when I've got cash again.

I agree, the prices are very nice these days.

6GB Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600 for R2100 = Win! :)

Yep, and I picked up my 4GB DDR3-1600 kit for R1000 from Prophecy. When Win7 drops I'm going to get the 64bit and get another 4GB.

There are two reasons to upgrade to DDR3, otherwise its not really worth it at the moment:

1. Your trying to get into the top 10 benchmarks for 3DMark06. Basically if you have an extreme edition quad and want to overclock the hell out of your PC.
2. You want upgrade to an i7/1366 Socket mobo.

DDR3 prices are falling rapidly though, so it may be worth it in a few months time if your looking to do a RAM upgrade.

I think 6GB will be enough for me and my next rig. Man, I can't wait for next year. MUST.HAVE.NEW.PC!!!!!!
