To RGB or not to RGB

Flex

Will lift for boobs!
I am not sure about you guys, but this RGB story is being so hectic! Everything now has lights that can flash and change colours! But at what cost though and is it really worth it?

I like my PC to have some lights in yes. But having my MOBO, GPU, Fans, RAM with RGB Lighting is definitely not priority.
And that seems to be the latest trend.. RGB being a must on almost every single component outside and inside of your tower!

Razers' Chrtoma range is a very good example. Exactly same products, just different lighting. But oh boy... The price tells a different story.

What are your experiences?

Sorry, I've been out of the loop for a while. Whats RGB apart from being a color model? Can you CMYK your pc?

I personally couldn't care less about all the perspex and coloured lights. Ya it can look nice, but I would much rather put money into performance than lighting...

Agreed 100%. but it is funny to see how some people will do it totally the opposite way

I suppose it depends if you're going to put your PC on show or not. Any machine of mine is likely to just live under my desk, but for people who go to a lot of LAN's and stuff it might be more worthwhile to them having a showy PC. Although personally, even if I was going to LAN's, I would still prefer to have a killer PC in a plain box than a mediocre one in a shiny box. Of course if you have lots of money to throw around, you could have the best of both.

Nothing is worse (IMO) than someone rocking up with a case that looks like a laser light show, and when you start asking about what they're running it's all Intel i3-2100, 4GB DDR3 1066, Radeon HD 6450, etc etc... And you're like WTF, DO YOU EVEN GAME ON THAT?

LOL I can only imagine. I myself am not a showy person, so even if I had an awesome machine, I would feel embarrassed pulling out a machine with all the overboard fancy lighting effects. But some people like to dress things up, each to their own...

Personally I prefer a stylish case than something that looks like it should be in the next Fast & Furious movie. I like to keep the components the same color though. With my current setup its black and red... except for the damn gpu :/

Likewise, I went with a subtle Black everything with blue LED fans, decided I don't like it so I'm replacing all the blue LEDs with LED-less fans. I have one die-hard fan left before my box goes dark again. Hell, I even switched off the LEDs on my GTX because I don't want stupid lights

Maybe throw one of these in

It just depends on the gamer, for those that dig a setup that's not just good on the inside but also stylish on the outside, RGB and LED is the way to go. As long as it's tastefully done.

I just picked up a Corsair K70 RGB LUX keyboard to go with my NZXT noctis 450 + MSI Gaming X 1070 + MSI Gaming M5 mobo. The all red & black colour combination is subtle, and not OTT. I dig it.

I also aim to pick up some LED strips to put under my desk and behind my monitor + looking for a decent big mouse pad with red lining to go with a Corsair M65 RGB mouse, which is next month's purchase. Even my next headset purchase I'm looking at the Sennheiser Game ZERO because of the red trim. You just need to have a goal in mind.

Check out randomfrankp's room tour project on YouTube for inspiration and to see your setup can look super classy with RGB lighting, without feeling like something from fast n furious.

Just need to sort out my cable management and my setup is going to look sweet. Actually, anyone know where I can get trunking, LED strips and other CM stuff in the Johannesburg region? I've just moved up here.

Send me a PM and I will help you out. Have a few contact for both the LED RGB strips as well as custom sleeved cabling

My csgo skills have VASTLY improved thanks to swapping my Blackwidow for a Blackwidow Chroma! :D

Seriously its purely cosmetic (although I DO find it useful when the gf is sleeping and wants lights out and i am still gaming/browsing...having the keys mildly lit up and slowly throbbing is awesome). It comes down to personal choice, as do most things, and you'll likely find you either love having one (or wanting one) or not caring.

Too much throbbing in the dark while your GF is sleeping in that post for me! O_o

I'm more impressed with someone who can do something truly unique and artistic with their case, rather than silly disco lights. Some people can do some amazing things with them.

This is cool.

As for me, my case is black with all the LED's switched off, I barely know it's there unless I have to switch it back on after a power failure or something.
