As was rumoured, it's been officially revealed that the next Tony Hawk game from Activision - called Tony Hawk: Ride - will be shipping with a giant, hulking skateboard peripheral.

This is either the smartest, or stupidest, thing Activision have ever done.
The announcement was made on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV. There's a trailer below. Not much else was revealed other than the fact the game will be out on 360, PS3 and Wii. Oh, and that it has a giant plastic skateboard peripheral.

This game would be pretty awesome with a board like that :D

Sounds Dangerous to me. I mean how do you do the jump things? I smell a whole lot of injury suits. "I opened up my head trying to aili(I dont know how u spell it) it was like totally wicked china..." Actually now that i think about it, it will be incredible realistic, i mean skateboarders fall all the time.

tony hawk 2 was the first game i played over and over again...

....dunno about this board, but then again who would have thought getting a guitar with a game would have worked

Ja well thats the thing everything is going wireless now days so pp dont have to get hit by cars while skateboarding and stuffs :p but this should be fun i wouldnt mind buying one just to test it out.... u never kno how their sales might do....

lol... where are the wheels on this thing...

bru this is a game how do you expect to have wheels when you can damage the ground in ur house... think about the lighties who cant skateboard their parents would not only sue the company for designing wheels on it and can u imagine skating around the house with that thing u wouldn't have any signal after 10-15meters :p

You Test it Grim and let us know how it turns out. Im not to keen on Skateboard games anyways but i think it will be interesting to see how it works.

lol, I just can't see how this works without a stand or a wheel..
Are you supposed to use it as a hand controller then!? :p

Well technically speaking... myself and Duncan back at school we took the trucks off his board and pulled tricks on his trampoline, however i dunno how this will turn out as a console game :p

Tony Hawk Ride board to be used for 'many games'

Joshua Tsui, president of Tony Hawk Ride developer Robomodo, told Videogamer.com that gamers concerned about blowing a bunch of money on the package should see it as an investment in a new platform, because the skateboard peripheral that comes with Ride won't be a single-use device.

"It's really important to us that when people buy this package that they understand that, right now we're concentrating on Tony Hawk Ride, but we want to make sure that people have a good return on their investment so there are many games that are planned for this peripheral," Tsui said.

Discussing potential followup games to use the board, Tsui said, "The obvious ones are snowboarding and surfing and such, but there are a lot of games that can be used with this board, and we're really excited to start working on those."

Of course, the real followup games will be called Tony Hawk's Ride 2, Tony Hawk's Ride 3, and Tony Hawk's Ride 4, and each one will have an optional bundle that includes a new board with just enough upgrades to tempt people into repeat purchases. Because, you know, Activision.
