Tropical Cyclone Heading for KZN

Yikes - I guess we'll see if the local infrastructure is setup to handle such a huge amount of rain. The weather has been crazy indeed. Even here in JHB in the West Rand we've been seeing severe thunder and rain storms on a very frequent basis. Last weekend it rained so much in one afternoon that some homes and complexes lost parts of their boundary walls! Good luck KZN!

*maybe this whole "world ending in 2012" isn't so far fetched at all.

I'm in the Midlands, so we'll probably get rain and storms. I'm glad I don't live in Richards Bay though.

I was wondering if it would actually go all the way to KZN. It hit Madagascar a week or two ago already and there was speculations that it might reach KZN.

Well I can safely say it has hit us, luckily here in Durban it wasn't as bad as the towns up north. Rained hard for about 8 hours straight, the main highway across from the old airport had to be shut down because of partial flooding. Will have to wait and see what structural damage if any it has caused.

Jeez the wind here in jhb yesterday was insane as it is. Myself and spooner were having a pub lunch when the wind hit us hard, I can say I was worried shit would blow us away :p

I'm in "the hills" and didn't feel it much. More interested in seeing the effect of the X1-class eruption and CME from sunspot AR1429 tbh.

I laf it when you talk forrin! :p

No, but seriously ... Ar1429 erupted yesterday and will own you in the face, here's a pic of the region it stems from.

I was invited to go study the effects of solar flairs on communication systems in Antarctica for 13 months by my electronics lecturer a number of years ago, but I didn't have the required comms background. :/ It would've been very (for lack of a better word) cool.

I remember that wind, geez.

So. Irina got the hell outta here. She decided KZN was too hectic for her (didn't like Malema or something) and went east... lol

Although, she could pop a U-Turn -- transform into Katrina -- and kick our collective multi-coloured butts for being cheeky :wtf:

Uncertainty on Irina hitting SA again
2012-03-06 12:00

Durban - The SA Weather Service was not sure on Tuesday whether tropical storm Irina would return to South Africa this weekend.

"There is a difference of opinion on whether the tropical storm will come back close to the coast again, or if it will stay far away from the coast," weather spokesperson Mnikeli Ndaba said.

Ndaba said the tropical storm was located 748km east of Durban and would not have an impact on land. There would, however, be rough seas along the KwaZulu-Natal coast.
