Trying to help: People who want to play Black Ops - without MWeb Accounts

Okay so I'm actually going to try and post something positive about this whole CoD: Black Ops issue. I'm doing this to help people who don't currently have MWEB accounts who want to play Black Ops. We can try and post "workarounds" in the meantime to help our fellow gamers out:

1) First solution would be to move ISP's and get an MWEB account. But many people like me are more than happy with their current ISPs (mine being WebAfrica) and I'm not prepared to leave my ISP over a single game.

2) You could buy some sort of prepaid account at an ISP that is hosting their accounts on the IS backbone. This will allow you to at least play on the MWEB COD servers with a reasonable ping.

As far as I know, the above two fixes are the only options currently available to local Black Ops players. Some guys have suggested that you can buy a prepaid AfriHost account - but I'm not sure how that would work. It does seem awkward to change your ADSL settings each time you want to play a single game - but at least it should technically work.

Move to mweb, Enough said.

Dude, I pay R299 a month for a 25GB ADSL account at WebAfrica. Moving to MWEB is not the smartest answer here, especially not for one game. I think the smartest thing would be option 2, to get a prepaid AfriHost account.

Just to add, this is NOT a "go MWEB go you're our hero" thread. I'm trying to help people who want to play Black Ops. I couldn't give a CRAP about MWEB and their pioneering efforts in this thread.

Move to an ISP that sits on the IS Backbone and is cost effective at the same time... enough said...

Likewise I couldn't give a crap about your anti-Mweb shpeel.

These are your options.

1 - Buy an mweb account.
2 - Buy bandwidth from an isp that is peered with mweb.
3 - Play on international servers.
4 - As stated DONT buy Black Ops!

Should have gotten a free gig with Afrihost when they had it on offer :p

If push comes to shove and your STILL stupid enough to buy black ops, doesn't have a P2P system like MW2 along side the servers?

I pay R199 for 30GB on Webafrica, for an extra R15 I can move to Mweb and have an uncapped account. Makes sense to me.

Geesh instead of trying to stick with the topic and trying to help fellow gamers out by finding ways to successfully play Black Ops, you're still rather punting the MWEB solution. You guys are pricks.

Bwhahaha dude, are you for real? :wtf:

There is no way around it unfortunately. Quicker you deal with that the better don't ya think?

WTF are you smoking? Of course there is a way around it. Like I've said, get a 1GB prepaid Afrihost account. It's such an obvious workaround that I cannot understand WHY people are still going "MWEB or NOTHING". I'll NEVER move to MWEB, and you know what, even if I had the spastic urge to play Black Ops, I'd do it with an AfriHost account!

Don't buy black ops, an even better option.

So far you actually have the best option here - but I won't elaborate on it. As you can see here, even if you try post something positive about the game and helping others I fear it's the community that plays the game that's apparently a bunch of turds and not the game itself like I initially thought - my bad.

No sir you are an idiot. You are looking for difficult solutions to a simple problem.

Lol, only kidding dude. Just lighten up a bit man. There simply are no work-arounds, only the reality of it. It's as simple as that. Get bandwidth from an independently peered ISP, or don't. I can see you have developed an intense hatred for MWEB, which is not fair!

Unfortunately nothing.

Just a question, why pay R299 p/m for 25GB when you can go Mweb and get uncapped for R219?

I would say get an Afrihost prepaid account. It's only R29 per gig. I was lucky and got a free 1 gig account with them, not that it matters much since I am on MWEB uncapped. As for managing more than one account you can simply create a new PPPoE connection and dial into the account without having to change your router setting. Just disconnect when you're done.

It would seem that to the majority moving to MWEB isn't such a bad idea. It is only you who is so blantantly against it.
I pay R290 on Afrihost for a 512Kb/s Uncapped account, if Afrihost was not one of those already peered with Mweb and if I felt the need to play Black Ops (which i dont) and Mweb offered me the same deal for R299 I would also move.

Ok so you yourself have pointed out that you can either buy an mweb account OR buy an afrihost account.

Close thread we have a conclusion!
