Been while like that. yet to see a AAA anime in the ranks of gits, ergo proxy, samurai champloo or "live" series in the ranks of BSG. Maybe even in the original spirit of SG since atlantis was kak and not to mention how horrible SGU is.
Most things today is nothing new, merely remakes of old things. Movies, games, music. you name it. It's strange though (but it might also be partly reason why) most or some just go nuts and claim it good when clearly it's not.
Found Mentalist for example refreshing though episode 12 of season 1 was bit lame with the theme they added to that episode. Most good series like fire fly just get canned, but we are stuck with crap like vampire dairies, lol ?

I`m sure I wouldn`t like BSG as much if I had watched the original. But it seems all the good series have passed.
Compared to the first season(s) of: BSG, Lost, Prison Break, Heroes, True blood. It feels like they don`t measure up anymore. I`m especially missing the escapism of BSG.

Good and great yes, but hardly in the ranks of those two I mentioned. I would love to watch another series that's on par with for example the philosophical themes and debt ergo proxy had. None has matched that. After gits it was the only series I watched that was equal if not better in that regard. Some of us needs more than just pretty pictures, panties, blood and so on.
Still as I've said you get great and then great like high school of the dead was. Rather save myself and watch a porno before I take that thing past ep 4 I think I stopped at. Or just go with Zombieland. At least that was a decent zombie flick without the obvious misplaced lace.
i agree ergo proxy was amazing, one of my top anime
and well in its genre nothing really surpasses it
dude! how can you call highschool of the dead anime. surprised you even gave it 4 episodes!
im blank for thought of anything thats more in depth than ergo now...
