I've been wanting to get into Dr. Who but don't really know where to start.
Any recommendation of a season I should start watching from?
Doesn't this series pretty much (give or take a decade) go back to the beginning of the couch potato era?

I recommend you start with the first of the new series. 2005 season. It is not essential, but a lot of characters get introduced over time.
If you like Dr Who, also check out Torchwood (it's an anagram for Doctor Who) for a darker side of the same universe by the same writers.

thoughts on boardwalk empire?

Its a brilliant show imo and definitely worth giving it a shot. I got hooked 2 episodes into the first season

Torchwood was really good stuff. Do wish that they had produced more.

Definetly their best of the series.

Reminds me of Primeval which was another of that sort of genre.

watched the Hannibal pilot this weekend, looks promising, so we watch Silence of the Lambs again
