Twitch streaming quality testing

We are helping to collect data on the streaming quality of Twitch in South Africa.

The next time you use Twitch, it would be great if you could help test "Source" quality, and state what the best quality stream is that you can comfortably watch on your Internet connection.

When reporting your experience, please answer the following questions:

  1. What Internet connection and ISP are you on?
  2. Stream watched?
  3. Were you able to watch the stream in Source quality without buffering?
  4. At which quality setting could you watch the stream comfortably?
  5. Did the video buffer at the quality setting in (4) at any point?

If you want, feel free to include screenshots or transcribed data from the video stats overlay.

Example report:

  1. What Internet connection and ISP are you on? 40Mbps VDSL, Vox capped
  2. Stream watched? Alkaizerx
  3. Were you able to watch the stream in Source quality without buffering? No (1920x1080)
  4. At which quality setting could you watch the stream comfortably? High (1280x720)
  5. Did the video buffer at the quality setting in (4) at any point? Yes

Will do mine tonight. Twitch doesn't work well for me at all on BitCo. However Google's live gaming stream works fine in 720p without any buffering.

MyGaming to start a Twitch Stream!!!! You heard it here first people...

But I'll test tonight as well for my line. My work internet is good and eats Twitch for breakfast, but I'm sure that's not the feedback that Jan is looking for.

I feel I have to comment. 6Mbps is fast enough for 1080p streaming, however I could see that my bandwidth usage for the Twitch stream went from full 6Mbps down to slower speeds and that is when the buffering started. I don't know if this is a reflection on Twitch or my ISP.

I can see my bandwidth usage because I use netmeter, I find it useful to check if something is downloading in the background while I game, or if my internet is being slow for no reason.

Watching Co-optional now. Looks like the buffering starts when the buffer size drops below 1.

And we have buffering on mobile quality.
