Typical LAN PC

I've got a friend who wants to build up a typical LAN PC. To play games only, I believe.

What would you recommend he buys (in terms of hardware and such).

Nothing too fanciful, just a decent, well priced rig that can play games.

Best thing for a lan is probably a decent spec Laptop.
There is noway I try and carry my pc and screen and etc around!

Not sure what a "typical LAN PC" is but if I were building one today I'd make sure of a few things;

Small case, aluminium not steel.
Only 1 HDD
No DvD drive
19" monitor (nothing bigger)

Saw some Alienware X51 gaming PC's at Mweb D3 launch the other night. Power supply is external, so it means the PC is about as big as an Xbox360! That plus a thin led screen would be perfect for LAN.
They are being launched in SA soon I believe.

Love that tower. Looks neat and shiny. But I'm guessing the prices for this rig will be through the roof, since it's Alienware.

Yeah prolly, but have him look at other boxes that is that form and size. Not sure if other guys do it yet, but a external PSU would make it really light and cool (heat wise)

The other thing is... He's not a serious gamer, just wants to have fun now and again, but, without the high prices of hardware these days. From what he tells me, he basically wants a PC that can handle CoD, or something in that line.

Well, as mentioned, a good gaming laptop will give him a decent CoD experience. And the convenience of not hauling around screens, chassis', cables, etc cannot be understated. I strongly recommend the laptop over a desktop, even if he's not a laptop kinda guy. I know of a few gamer guys now who choose a good gaming laptop over a desktop. Most of them swore never to get a laptop. Now they cant live without it.

i would reccomend:
2500k
decent mobo
700-800w psu
7850 if hes on a budget
23" led screen
but obviously budget is the decider in all things.but those parts will last him years without the need to upgrade
