Uber loud psu :(

Hi All

I recently got an msi R9280x gpu.
I needed a psu for it and after a bit of checking online, the general consensus was that a 550w psu would be sufficient.

I bought a cooler master gx 550w. I wanted to get a Huntkey 700w but a friend advised against it.
I also had the option of a 550w corsair for roughly the same price.

The problem is that the Cooler master psu makes my lounge sound like a server room from the 80's. It also releases a lot of hot air, which gets pumped into the chasis as well.

Tested while playing games on medium spec and it still gets loud...
I'm worried about the excess heat causing cpu and gpu temps to skyrocket.

Any advise on some good brands and whether the psu outputs sufficient power to the card?
I was under the impression that cooler master was one of the best brands.

Thanks.

And also the RaidMax 730W PSU 135mm Blue LED Fan. This one seems to have gotten tons of positive reviews,

Haha, yeah I saw that review. I thought Cooler Master was a reliable brand, should have checked it prior to buying the thing.

And thanks :).

I got a Extreme Power 550w, just as loud lol.
Think my next upgrade should be a nice quiet PSU. Lol SSD is never gonna happen :P

My XGR 450Watt PSU is audible as well; not sure of its actual SPL, but it can be heard even outside of my room. I do intend on investing in a newer and better PSU - one of low-noise, or just plain silent.

A R9 should not be loading a 550 PSU to such an extent to spin the fans heavily (Remember modern tech is *more* efficient than prior gen). For reference...the fan on my Corsair GS800 spins up about once a year. As in not moving the other 364 days of the year.

Also...those GPU specs for "recommend" are super dodgy. Actual usage is usually far below spec. e.g. Mine:

102W idle (measured at power point - true number)
~400W load (This part is a little fuzzy...all I recall is that it was ludicrously under the 800W cap. 350W sounds right, but don't quote me - can remeasure if anyone needs details)
800W PSU spec (supplier spec...should be good for 800+)

Regarding the no fan...we've literally got people asking on mybb whether their fan is broken on that model...no joke:

I'm told that the GS line isn't premium/is rebranded...I'll go for it again...watch me.
