Ubisoft ditching crappy DRM system for RUSE - Woop!

Lol. We'll at least they are letting it go... Shame about the games that was released with it though.

one thing steam needs to drop is you need to be online first to log into the steam account to play offline afterwards.

Smart move.

I wouldn't have minded it so much if Ubisoft actually had decent uptime and a solid network, but they didn't. Not only that, but their network just couldn't stand up to some angry crackers DOS attacks which would go on for hours on end.

Steam on the other hand has ridiculously good uptime and quite a few years behind them in improving, scaling their network and no single point of failure so it would be EXTREMELY difficult for crackers to bring down the whole Steam network. They also have "cloud" support as well, one of the touted features of Ubisoft's little DRM platform. Really, this should have been a no-brainer from the start.

Really? I didn't know that, that's a very scary thought. So if I ever lose my connection to, I don't know, parastatal incompetence, I wouldn't be able to launch my games?

Much better, nothing worse than sneaking in splinter cell and as you are making a break for it.. "lost internet connection...." and you wait.. and wait... and get bored... and get something to drink only to find your connection was restored and you have died - perfect stealth run ruined!

Steamworks rocks.

LoL at least you get to play Splinter Cell.

I am so so bitter about SH5 - I even got the collectors edition and have given up trying to play it.

Well download the skidrow crack and than buy it when ubisoft decides to releace a patch to remove it for good.

so does this mean HAWX 2 will still have this crappy old drm? or have they switched to steam for it?

Apparently it only applies to RUSE so far. We'll have to wait and see if AC Brotherhood or Future Soldier use DRM or Steamworks, although I can't see why they would go back.
HAWX 2 will ship with the UbiDRM as far as I have read.

Maybe they'll re-release the other games (AC2, Hawx 2 etc) - RUSE could be a test run to see if it works.

With regards to having issues to playing my Steam games offline, I've never had an issue. It says it can't log into Steam, I say start in offline mode, and I'm good to go.

Hopefully they'll offer both on the Steam store. Steam isn't without it's piracy issue, but then again neither was Ubi DRM. If they make the move to Steam officially, they won't look back.
