Ubisoft have gone on record to say that they will no longer develop games for PS3 and Xbox 360. Except for Just Dance games, that is.
The news comes out of the same financial call last evening as the single-player only announcement for the new Assassin's Creed.
What does this mean for the future of Ubisoft? It means that we may never again see last-gen spin-offs like Assassin's Creed Rogue sail the open, low-res seas. Additionally, multi-platform Ubisoft titles, such as the Far Cry series, will finally have a chance to be the best they can be by running exclusively on PC and current-gen hardware.
While it may be sad news to those who have yet to upgrade their trusty, old consoles, it bodes well for the industry. More and more AAA publishers seem to be taking the new-gen highway on the way to the bank each morning, and that's a good thing. It means better, prettier, and more complex gaming experiences for everyone to enjoy.
We will always remember the fantastic games of yesteryear, and possibly even boot them up on special occasions, but it is time for the next generation to really begin.
