Uncharted 3 - Aiming Problem?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if you found the aiming in Uncharted 3 any different from the previous 2 games. When you get to the point where you start engaging in gun-play it took me quite awhile to get acclimated to the aiming. It got better wiht time but I was almost sure something was off, I thought nothing of it at first but every so often it just irritates me.

Then today I stumbled across this on the Naughty Dog site so it seems I'm not alone in my experience.

How are you guys finding it.

PS: Thanks for tearing yourselves away from UC3 to reply to this post! I know it was difficult :D

I don't like it tbh. Especially since I played UC2 a few days earlier, there's definitely something wrong with the aiming. I find I miss a whole lot more in UC3.

I turned the aim sensitivity all the way up and that has helped a lot, but fine aiming, like for headshots is still terrible.

Me to I am struggling with headshots and tracking enemy's as they move. What's especially annoying is when aiming (L1) the speed at which the crosshair moves is not proportional to the camera sensitivity which throws my aim off. Also when taking down an enemy when aiming, and panning to the next enemy takes far too long, by the time I get my crosshair over them they have ducked for cover.

It's still a great game but the controls are ruining my experience, to the point where I am actively trying to stealth kill my way through the game just to avoid shooting the gun :(

Even though Naughty Dog has tried to justify it buy saying the enemy's react faster etc, if the gamers are trying to avoid using one of the games most basic mechanics, then it should be cause for concern.

Oh on another note, these issues are non-existent in Multiplayer for me, I was testing it out last night.

Yes I have also found it to be a bit challenging, especially aiming in close-quarter combat. But it wasn't a deal breaker for me. The enemies are also much faster than in UC2 and they move around a lot, so that also makes aiming more difficult.

Playing on Hard.

I got no issues with the enemy AI, I enjoy a challenge, but I feel the controls sometimes don't respond how I'd like them to.

I was playing on normal, but after dying 5 or 6 times in the ship graveyard I had to make a choice. Either I stuck to normal, fought the controls and lost all my enjoyment or I turned it down one level and got the enjoyment back. I opted for the latter.

I'll play on hard on my second play through.

I haven't had a chance to try the MP yet, but will get to it as soon as I finish the SP.

Maybe try normal, it'll make a difference. Get you used to the aiming. Especially if it bothers you so much that you only want to stealth enemies rather than shoot.

I also nearly went to easy, also at the ship graveyard. Aiming with everything moving is very tricky. How I will do this on Crushing I do not know.

I actually find myself blind firing a lot more in UC3, it proves better than aiming down sights since its not nearly as slow. So much in fact that I already unlocked a trophy for it...

I'm actually busy reviewing UC3 at the moment - and yeah, I've definitely picked up on this; it's hardly a game-breaker, it just takes a bit longer to dispose of enemies.

I have to admit though, I find myself preferring hand-to-hand fights to gun fights; sometimes, where I can, I just run in head-first to punch the dudes in the face rather than stand around miss-firing at them.

Also, please tell me I'm not the only one who is finding the character movement...disconcerting. It's like Nate has no weight and bounces off the walls.

There's alot more dynamic movement with Drake I've found, but he does seem to "bounce off the walls" quite easy. After watching some of the unlocked behind the scene's video's I can see how it add's to the gameplay since they convey Drakes emotion through body language and his movement. But I hear you when you say he has no weight to him.

A small thing that I noticed that bugs me, when climbing off the bottom of a ladder I immediately try to turn the camera around.
I'm not sure how best to explain it, but it's as if the camera is locked when traversing certain objects like ladders.

It's nothing major but I guess I hold NaughtyDog to a high standard, much like they do themselves.
Otherwise great game so far i've just reached the Ship Graveyard :D

Good luck buddy, it's going to be hell at one point. :)

It's not enough to ruin what is one of the best games I've ever played. :)

Certainly not! I've recommended it to a few friends as a MUST HAVE for their PS3's. It's still every bit as good as Uncharted 2 in terms of the story and adventure, and I can see myself diving into the multiplayer for days on end long after the campaign is over.

From the NaughtyDev's regarding their post about the gun mechanics:

Just an FYI update - this post wasn’t meant to say that you’re all crazy, but we wanted to clarify what has changed with guns in SP and MP.
We’re still looking into this.
