US school shooting renews debate on videogame violence

im just going to loooooooooooool ! they want to blame video games and yet in most US states any idiot can buy a gun over a counter at a store (no questions asked). if they had a proper gun licence permit system like other countries this would happen alot (im not saying it wont happen) less in the us, cause the fact is gun control in that country is nonexistent.

Yes, because the US is the only country in the world that sells violent video games. And in other news, there is absolutely no violence whatsoever in books, movies, plays or television.

It's absolute lunacy that almost two thousand times the number of people die on US roads each year in comparison to the number who've died in school shootings, but gaming still gets the blame simply because no one's willing to talk about the real issues here.

IMHO: ignore it and go back to gaming.

“The same is true. I would say 95 percent of scientists believe that violent media, TV programs, movies, videogames, increase aggression, and only 5 percent or even less believes they have no effect."

Way to pull numbers out of your ass haha. Anyone who thinks that video games, tv and music directly influence an individual (unstable or otherwise) to go massacre schoolkids are out of their minds. Anyone that thinks it's ok to be able to purchase AUTOMATIC RIFLES over the counter and not live in fear of the next nutcase to pull this shit is also out of his or her mind. What the hell do you need automatic guns for? Self defense? PSSSH. Hunting? Nope.jpg. Killing lots of people at the same time? YEP.

What gets my back up even more is when these anti-entertainment dickheads get up and start shouting about their pitiful cause using the latest massacre as fuel to their fire. How insensitive they must be to the families of the dead and wounded. This guy was suicidal and had a lot of anger to direct at people he believed were responsible for his lot in life. And he had access to the means to enact his vengeance in the form of high calibre weaponry.

Folks are looking for answers as to why this happened, so this kind of response is understandable to some extent.

They should re-look the whole system on how guns are issued in the states. A friend told me that in the states they sell guns over the counter, just do the paper work for it, and its yours.

They can't blame video games. Video games do not tell you to go and kill a bunch of people.

Have you seen their answer to prevent this happening again. Armed gunmen in school instead of gun control. More guns to solve the gun issue, awesome.

Guy from NRA doesn't want his precious semi automatic assault rifle he bought in gun shop around the corner to be taken away, because he's a legitimate owner. Anyone find it a bit weird that it's mostly the gamers that's challenging this "legitimacy"?

Yep and what they don't realize is that their poor gun control system is the real issue. From what I read in most of the shoot em up incidents is the culprit got his gun legally. But I doubt it will change in the future , NRA (and lot of other people ) will throw a huge tantrum with 4mil + people, doubt the government will be able to do anything.

@ hideinlight

Semi-automatic rifle ? Pfffffftt majority of those guys have a whole arsenal of fully automatic MGs. My dads sister's husband in USA is the typical american male that drives a Dodge Ram and has a lot of guns in his safe. I haven't seen it myself, but from what my dad told me, its quite a collection.

I've been gaming since the late '70s (think arcade) and I also own a firearm. I have no desire to shoot anyone. I do sometimes get the urge to use a baseball bat (which I do not own). So by my logic I should keep the firearm and not get a baseball bat!

I just want to add that this whole school shooting is suspicious.

And as for the gun control. Dude if a person wants a gun they going to get it. I don't see why people shouldn't be allowed to legally own guns.

It's just about owning a gun it's about the type of guns that people can own. There is no valid reason for a regular person to own an SMG or assault rifle.

In the states it is legal to own an AR-15 which is a civilian version of the M16.

I still don't see the problem. The person left the rifle in the car who did the shootings. If you make that type illegal there will always be ways of getting it.

So you dont see a difference between a full auto gun and a semi? Which one do you think is more dangerous...

Its not the gun its the person who uses it.
So then why regulate explosives or poisons or radioactive material? Because that stuff is dangerous, especially when in the wrong hands.

You think the shooting would have happened if the person went in with a musket?

Then you didn't hear what happened in china. Some guy stabbed a good many school children. If these nutters want to kill someone they going to find a way.
