US school shooting renews debate on videogame violence

Then you didn't hear what happened in china. Some guy stabbed a good many school children. If these nutters want to kill someone they going to find a way.

Most of those children survived and he was overpowered by security guards. A gun is the most sufficient killing tool, and stopping someone who has one is no easy task.

Videogames are the easiest to pick on.

I've seen much more disturbing and intense violence in movies, and quite plainly put, videogame violence isn't nearly as bad as some of what I've seen shown in movies. Special effects have become more advanced, making the slicing of limbs and other body parts seem that much more gruesome, violent and disturbing. Dead Space (1 & 2)
Fallout 3 and Vegas are the only 2 games in which violence can become quite graphic.

I think I'll go and run around my neighbourhood with a high-powered laser rifle now :p

Max Payne 3 was just plain disturbing in some parts. For instance the Tyre scene. It's not the gore and blood, it's the idea.

You do know that happens here in the townships?

Also The human organ trafficking in those slums are real. :-/
Max payne 3 was a messed up game. But I loved it :p

Let's just assume that the can link violence to video games and movies, what's their plan?
Are the going to shut down and industry worth billions, make us sign contracts with every purchase to not repeat anything seen. Maybe they will make gamers register on a network and attend monthly evaluations for sanity.
They could allows beef up age restrictions but with parents buying games for kids the only workable answer would be to have bouncer walk in your room every time you open steam and to ask for I'd.

They only pick on games because they are to lazy to accept guilt. Its much easier to play hot potato than have parents admit they failed. Plus they are picking on an industry that can't defend itself nor punish so its an easy debate topic that achieves nothing and blames no-one officially.

It isn't laziness, it's a carefully constructed misdirection. The multi-billion dollar gun isdutry doesn't want you to blame guns and stop buying them or put restrictions on their purchase, so they blame video games instead. Traditional media doesn't want you playing games instead of watching TV and getting them AD revenue so they blame games. Hopefully make you or your parents fearful of games so they will get you to watch more TV instead.

America looks at all the wrong reasons and create all their own problems. "Blame" what you want, but I think it's worth pointing out that America is basically an oligarchy which hands out guns and psychiatric medication in a manner similar to the way they hand out cholesterol and fatty foods. I visited there recently. The circumstances are weird there. Things are easy. Mental health is prevalent but yields no results. Gun control is laughable. I don't know. It's like, "Hmm...insane person kills 20+ children = video games, must be". The train of logic is ridiculous.

Either way its still bullshit and people passing the blame

Sigh...

It isn't the video games that makes people crazy...they would still have been crazy if they had a broom instead of a controller.

Video games and heavy music are just always the easiest scapegoats to pick on.
