Valve announces a "surprise" at E3

Half Life : The MMO

:/
I doubt it, Vavle are not sellouts, but then again, thats would be fucking awesome! :D

I have a feeling HL2:EP3 has become Half-Life 3....
Definitely, we wouldn't wait this long for an expansion
That would be fine with me, tbh.

I HATED HL1 and HL2, but I absolutely loved Ep1 and Ep2.
WTF is wrong with you?

Shame:( I loved all hl games. Except ep1 found lacking.
agreed

have to agree on Freeman, atleast the Master Chief speaks every now and again. so he's not a empty suit.
he is the strong silent type! OK!

Bwhaha dude you don't believe this right?

They go where the money is. But a MMO for halflife would be weird but interesting story.

I see your Freeman and raise you a Link.

I actually think Gordan Freeman is the silent protagonist done correctly. This is largely due to the setting of the game and the characters he interacts with. Barney, Alex, hell even DOG. When you play Gordan you feel like someone whose caught up in something bigger than himself, he's trying to survive and help people along the way if he can. The emotion of the supporting cast drive the players feelings towards the story. When you play Link you feel like the villagers are just using you kinda like a pitchfork with legs and they don't interact very well with you either, with the exception of your "partner" for that game...Midna etc.

Half Life for me was a huge deal at the time, it was big leap forward for the FPS genre and showed you that a decent story could be told without sacrificing the intense action of an FPS. It was driven and your goals were clear, it also had some great set pieces. The cage with crossbow dangling over the water comes to mind as well as the helicopter you fight while scaling a cliff. So it is kind of hard to believe that HL didn't resonate with you Strife.

Half Life 2 I can maybe accept since times changed quite quickly and there were some decent competitors out at the time.

I honestly can't recall ANYTHING noteworthy in terms of storyline when it comes to HL1 (apart from the "choice" you're given at the end), however I played it back in the 90's so that's more that 10 years ago.

HL2 is still fresh in my memory, because I replayed it along with Ep1 and Ep2 last year.

Zelda doesn't even rate imho. Nintendo has been selling us the same shit for years and years, yet still we continue to purchase it.

Look it's not like I've got some immense hate for the title, I just wasn't impressed. However I have ordered a copy of the orange box for PC, because there are some HD mods for the games that I would like to apply and then replay.

Icefrog

Perfect Timing

Q: When will we hear more about you and Valve? Some people say it will take 2-3 years, can you give us any clues? (from Zeyall)

A: It certainly won't take that long. There are a lot of very talented people here at Valve that are working hard on it every day to ensure high quality in a timely manner. We'll be making an announcement soon actually, and based on the feedback I've been getting since the last mention, I'm sure you all will be as excited as I am.

Yeah I actually forgot that they hired Icefrog, could we see Valves entry into DotA style gameplay? I hope so.

Oh god no... please no!

I'm not much of a DotA fan either, largely due to the community, but I think the mechanics are a great idea and if it's integrated with steam Valve may have yet another winner on their hands.

It's always nice to have a serious developer step in and stir up a genre. It would make for some decent competition in a market currently held by DotA(which is a map/mod), HoN(which is a DotA clone) and LoL(which is fun, but not that big).

Plus new IPs are always welcome.
