Valve announces SteamOS :D

"You can play all your Windows and Mac games on your SteamOS machine, too. Just turn on your existing computer and run Steam as you always have - then your SteamOS machine can stream those games over your home network straight to your TV!"

Heh, you know what that means. Home network upgrade!

Don`t know if I understand this correctly... the processing is done on your gaming pc, so theoretically you`ll be able run crysis 3 on a raspberry pie.

Which makes me wonder if they will include an option later on to stream the games to your mobile? Something similar to say Kainy, or even Nvidia Shield.

All I know is some exciting times ahead if you into games.

I mean the network. I don't think a 54mbps wireless network will be able to handle the streaming.

This would be awesome :D

Good thing our home network was upgraded to a gigabit network :).

I have to do this...Consoles can suck it :D lol

I can already see, gamers not needing to use windows as their OS in 2 years from now.
Microsoft will have to adapt or die, or they could possibly release their own "gaming" OS.

I highly doubt this will break Microsoft's hold or even that we'll see a large-scale switch-over to SteamOS in a short time. Rather, it will likely be a systemic process that takes place over a couple of years, while developers and publishers start to provide support for Linux. A few years down the line SteamOS might have a sizable chunk of the gaming demographic, but not the majority.

As it stands right now, there's still the 'little' issue of the majority of games not supporting Linux.

Erm Xbox one?

I wasn't aware the Xbox One software was meant for pc...

Edit: I am specifically talking about a OS for gamers on PC, I really don't like consoles or console gaming apart from the Forza Series on Xbox.

Me as well :D

You know that as from Xbox one release, all Microsoft's OS will be sharing the same Kernel, just with different UI's. Windows 8.* Windows Phone 8, Windows RT and Xbox One all will share the same kernel and thus making it easier for developers to cross compile. That is the beauty of WinRT (Not the tablet but the new runtime)

Once you see and understand where Microsoft is heading you will either love the new direction or be scared shitless :D

Sure you will not be able to load XBone on your PC but developers will be able to target both platforms with a single Project. Also the streaming is taken care of in the new shared kernel. See Smartglass

I know all about that but its Microsoft so no one knows how its gonna end up xD
We can only hope for the best, Oh and this got me thinking, technically the new Xbox One is pretty much a pc, so if you think about it console gaming is dead and pc gaming is moving forward :D
